Note
Be careful. The Colorful preset only works with the very last version of SweetFX 1.4 by Boulotaur2024.
Don't worry, the "How to section" (This guide, part 3) explains all.
Part 2 : FPS boost
First of all don't forget to turn off the ingame Vsync.

I tweaked the VideoOptionsConfig.xml in order to have a FPS boost without a too big IQ loss.

Changes are :
  • lesser resolution for shadows (2048 from 4096)
  • lesser resolution for water reflections (1024 from 2048)
  • motion blur turned off
  • ghosting fixed

Image quality is just a bit altered but remains as close as possible to the ultra config.

Use it only if you have a "poor" framerate (between 30 and 60 fps) but a correct GC (GTX 560 Ti 1GB or better).

The game will look like that :

Links got nuked by Steam, could we get alternate mirrors? Thanks :)

I actually have a GFWL copy so that might be why it's different.

Or could you PM me the pre-edited config file please? Steam's filters seem to have blocked the link you posted.

Could you send an image of what your config looks like? I opened VideoOptionsConfig.xml in the exe. directory but it didn't have any of the settings you mentioned. I even typed "lesser" and "Lesser" into the "find" bar and no results were found. I also looked in documents but I didn't have a Fable 3 folder there.

Thanks so much! Turning off the blur and ghosting and changing the color preset made the game actually look nice.

How do you make it work with 2.0 ????
(CB)alexpalas Feb 27, 2016 @ 9:26am
Guys, to who have crash at startup.
SweetFX 1.4 don`t work on Windows 8-10.
You need to use SweetFX 2.0.
It says that older presets won`t work, but I tried it with Colorful preset and it worked.
So here is solution :D.

Wonderful work around thank you for this!
Some of the directions are a little to vague.
The direction line "Copy the "SweetFX 1.4" folder content and paste these files in the same directory as the .exe of the game you want to play" the way it was worded led me to believe I was supposed to only copy the contents of the SweetFX folder and the other files and put them in the root folder for Fable 3. Obviously this was wrong and ended up crashing my game at launch every time.
It finally registered that the path for the preset file that needed to be changed has SweetFX/ in it. So deleting all the files that were in that folder and then just pasting the actual folder in and changing the text to reflect the now included folder everything works as it should have.
In the end it all works wonderfully. My only grip is the screen tearing since I have to have V-Sync off to take full advantage of the FPS increase. Thank you again for this!
