Description
This map has been a long time in the making, and I am very proud of the end result. The next map in my GWR series features a high detail version of the railways in South Wales, owned by a range of companies until 1922. The reason this area is so dense of railways is the hundreds of coal mines stretching through the valleys, and everyone raced to try and profit from the transport of the coal from these mines to the docks of Cardiff, Swansea, Newport and Barry.
This 1:2.5 scale map covers nearly all of these valleys, allowing you to recreate:
- The South Wales Mainline from Newport to Neath
- The alternative GWR route from Pontypool to Neath via Aberdare
- The Rhymney railway entirely
- The Brecon and Merthyr Railway, from Newport to Talybont-on-Usk
- The Barry railway entirely
- The Taff Vale Railway entirely
- Every single branch line winding it's way through these valleys
I highly recommend a pre-beeching map if you plan on re-creating these lines as they are very extensive. This map contains randomised industry, which is untested. So I apologise if industries spawn in awkward or just ugly places.
I hope you have fun with this map!
