To Hell and Back (and Back to Hell and Back)
By braindance
This guide is primarily aimed for solo mid Lion. I know this is unconventional but if you have an open mind and are willing to make the best of this hero, you should give it a try. Lion has a very good skill set so getting fast levels allows being as useful as never before. If you do everything right, with this build you should NEVER lose 1v1 solo mid, unless constantly ganked.

Hi braindance, would you consider updating this guide for 6.79? Tranquil boots are now useless for anyone doing last-hitting, and I went with Power Treads instead when using your guide but I'm not sure what the best option is now for reliable health restoration with this build. Otherwise, I love it!

I've been playing DotA for many years, and I remember the times when heroes like Lion, Lich, Shadow Shaman (Rhasta) actually farmed and got items like Scepter, instead of leaving all the gold to the carry and spending everything on wards and mek. And even then Lion was hardly used as a ganking semi-carry. As for now, I think you would agree with me that this guide really is unconventional given the current meta. I don't really like how heroes like Dazzle and Lion are used just to place wards and don't get any serious items. I remember in the past games were more fun to watch because every hero had full input, it wasn't just battle of carries and some ulties here and there, like you almost always see in chinese games.

Problem with EBlade is that with it you put all your eggs in one basket - since it works in conjuction with your other skills, it has to be used on same target as your ulti. While with Scythe you have the ability to hex two targets at once. Besides, Scythe is not really "Luxury", it's more like my only situational item in this guide (except maybe Dust), and what I mean by that is that sometimes it may better to go for Scythe INSTEAD of something, like BStone, not AFTER everything else. And getting EB instead of some core item is never worth it, while getting it after the core set is complete is highly unlikely because it's very expensive and you don't really farm creeps. Usually the game ends when you have SB+D5, sometimes BStone, you rarely have the time to get that Scepter, and all these items are better than EB.

Unconventional? nope its old school people use to do it all the time at the beggining of dota.

May I suggest adding Ethereal Blade in Luxury items instead of Sheepstick? Pseudo-disable, more magic damage (more nuking for you, that is) and pseudo-escape tool.
What do you think?
