Pompeii

City-State Trait: Antiquity Sites yields +3 Gold and +3 Culture, if they are not removed.

City-State Type: Cultural

(When Gathering Storm is enabled, Pompeii has a start bias near Volcanoes)

History:
Pompeii was an ancient Roman city near modern Naples in the Campania region of Italy, in the territory of the comune of Pompei. Pompeii, along with Herculaneum and many villas in the surrounding area (e.g. at Boscoreale, Stabiae), was buried under 4 to 6 m (13 to 20 ft) of volcanic ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. Many of the inhabitants were also buried before they could escape. The catastrophe was described in a surviving letter by Pliny the Younger who saw the eruption from a distance and described the death of his uncle Pliny the Elder, an admiral of the Roman fleet, who tried to rescue citizens. The site was eventually lost until its initial rediscovery in 1599 and broader rediscovery almost 150 years later by Spanish engineer Rocque Joaquin de Alcubierre in 1748. The city has been largely preserved because of lack of air and moisture. The artefacts preserved provide an extraordinarily detailed insight into the life of the city. During excavations liquid plaster was used to fill the voids in the ash that once held human and animal bodies giving often gruesome images of their last moments. Pompeii has been a tourist destination for over 250 years. Today it has UNESCO World Heritage Site status and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Italy, with approximately 2.5 million visitors every year. Excavations have recommenced in some unexplored areas of the city, with findings reported in April and May 2018.

Compatible with Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm.

Pompeia in the roman city list is replaced by Herculaneum.

Mod Support:
Ynaemp (Giant, Greatest, LargestEarthCustom, LargeEurope, PlayEuropeAgain and Cordiform)
40sw4rm's "Old World"
English and french languages

Please note that an excavated artifact provides +3 culture and +3 tourism, so to be advantageous, keeping ancient sites must have a higher gain. Antiquity sites commes with Natural History during the Industrial Era, so it is a late advantage. Take the opportunity to make gold before archeologists arrive!!!

Awesome! I was actually just in Italy and I visited Pompeii. Very cool and I really like all the Italian city-states also recently added because I've been to many of those places now. Keep up the great work!

I'm excited to try this! Though I'm a little surprised that Pompeii doesn't provide the luxury resource wine: it was famous for its viticulture prior to the eruption of Vesuvius.

Fair enough.

I do not like "packs" and there's a reason for that: if I want to make a game with a South American vibe, I want to be able to have Caral in my game without necessarily also having Camelot or Dali, you see? Like that everyone chooses what he wants to have in his game without having a city that he does not want.

By the way, it would be extremely useful if all your city-states were collected in a single workshop item, much like Civitas, because enabling or disabling them all individually is an absolute pain in the ass, given the terrible civ interface for it!

Ah, indeed, that would explain why it wasn't working for me, thanks!

I'd just checked and all works fine.
Please note that this city-state requires the viking scenario dlc because I gave Pompeii a start bias near the Eyjafjallajökull

It looks like Pompeii specifically prevents the game from starting. At first I thought it was a conflict between this particular city-state and other city-state mods (Civitas and Free City States), but even after disabling those and leaving only all of your city-state mods (and no other community-created game content, only Rise & Fall and the Aztecs DLC), the game still gives the error:

"There was an error starting the game. We recommend disabling any mods and trying again. Error -3045188730"

Next step was to try disabling all of your city-states except Pompeii as well, and the error persists.
