An Update in respectful silence
  • Cube & Star: A Love Story has received 2,404 "Yes" votes
  • As a result, it is 14% of the way to the Top 100
  • Of all views, Cube & Star: A Love Story has received 26% Yes votes, 4% Ask Again and 70% No thanks (that's around average, based on my research).

Traffic is beginning to slow down (there is a spike upon submission and then it quietens down) - which means that we have to start proverbially hitting the street to promote the Greenlight and get those "Yes" votes coming in. So stay tuned... we'll try to get some media coverage and what-not over the coming weeks.

I am in the process of moving from Sydney, Australia to Los Angeles, California (big move!) so I will be a little quiet in the next week as I find an apartment and get a computer and such.

If you'd like to keep in touch or talk about one thing or another - holler out on Twitter!

I also have a Cube & Star: A Love Story playable demo / development build - so I'll likely put that up when I've settled in Los Angeles. What do you think? I think there are good / bad points of uploading a "work in progress". I guess time will tell.

And that's all from me at present!

Thankyou so much for the support thus far. It is a long road (like life) but ultimately it will be a beautiful thing (unlike life).

If you have any questions or would like to know more about... Greenlight stats / figures, behind-the-scenes stuff, or... really anything - leave a comment. Always happy to open the (figurative) kimono.

Oh and I've also temporarily replaced the robot-voiced trailer with a sound-effect/music-only trailer, while I gather together voices for the Square Voiced Project. Time will tell if that makes a positive difference!

The Square Voice Project
Release date: Third quarter 2013
'Fill your heart with joy; and leave the world a more colorful place than when you entered it'

Cube and Star: A Love Story is a game about the joy of exploration - the joy of... aimless but mindful wandering.
The world is a living, breathing entity and you - bold individual that you are; spread color throughout the land.

Day breaks, grass grows, night falls, stars fall from the sky, trees shed their fruit...
And across the world other cubes like yourself are bounding around, each with a little knowledge to impart to you... if you are curious enough to listen.

As the world become more vibrant - as you lend it your own breed of charm, secrets emerge from the ground: discover ancient relics, bizarre monetary tokens and personal journal entries left by cubes long gone.

And as you explore... relax.
This is the best of all possible worlds (and all is for the best, in the best of all possible worlds).

And to be more specific?

Cube & Star: A Love Story is a sandbox exploration game with a set of "structure" goals (Find the Ancient Star, Color the world, Unearth all of the relics etc) - and then a larger "shape the world in your image" goal which is more self-directed.

As you color the world - the emotions and behavior of all of the entities shifts and changes - their dialogue changes etc.

So at the end, you might have created... a soothing pastel blue oasis, or a flaming red stress-pit.

And then when you're finished?

You burn the whole thing down to grey and color it all over again (if you so decide).

P.S. This may seem silly, but could you add an option to turn off the "night time" lighting effect (but keep the evening glow)? Or at least make the night lighting less extreme? I don't like that for almost half the time I'm playing, I can't really enjoy the colors.

Fritz: I have played the demo here on Steam, and so far, I'm enjoying the foundations of the game! It's unexplainably hypnotic, relaxing, and addicting to play. That said, although you describe the gameplay to be "aimless but mindful wandering," I really think the game would benefit from more goals, more characters to interact with (each with their own stories to unearth), and added purpose to some of the objects you collect and things that could happen if you color the world in certain hues. I know it's a work in progress still, so I'm looking forward to what you have planned for the final product!

I personally liked the robot voice, for the cube that is. When the star spoke I cringed so I'm glad you are fixing it.
