Phoenix: Reborn From the Ashes

Mod ID: 1449927867

This mod remaps the vanilla Phoenix to a new version that overall is buffed and given unique mechanics in an attempt to make the difficulty and rarity of the Phoenix feel more worthwhile once you've managed to tame one.

I feel that a Phoenix should be a difficult to acquire, late game companion. Similar in capacity to Wyverns, but with additional utility at the exchange of raw power.

TL;DR: Breeding, Speed Levelling optional, awesome new attacks, more utility, more colors and custom color options, resurrection mechanics for wild and tamed, spawns without heatwaves, can land and walk, spawns on most maps.

Changes from vanilla
  • This Phoenix spawns on all maps that have a Desert Dunes biome (SE_DinoSpawnEntriesDunes) and does NOT require a Heat Wave to be active for it to spawn. Also spawns in the mountains (DinoSpawnEntriesMountain), but more rarely. Spawns in Extinction Oil Fields rarely (DinoSpawnEntries_Wasteland_OilFields_Fliers). Yes, it does spawn naturally on Valguero.
  • The taming affinity decrease cooldown has been increased by about 5x, making solo Wyvern tames easier between stamina recharges, BUT Phoenixes are faster in the wild.
  • Phoenixes now burn enemies in proximity to them when charging or taking damage. (makes drive-bys very fun)
  • Additional colors!
  • Change the Phoenix's flame color dynamically with its colors, or to a preset of your choice with INI options.
  • Adult Phoenixes now accept stone as a food source, though at reduced effectiveness compared to Sulfur.
  • Can land and walk using Left Control.
  • Some resources weigh less than in the inventory of the vanilla Phoenix. Sulfur weighs nothing.
  • All fire damage effects stack, and the fireball has a longer range.
  • Ini option for speed levelling.
  • Breedable with ini option.
  • Can pick up creatures.
  • Several new attacks (see controls)
  • Can be carried on shoulder with ini option.
  • Wyvern's fire breath has longer range that matches the animation. (I found it helpful for taming, with the latency it would look like I was hitting the Phoenix, but I wasn't)

Core features
  • Resurrection: When a bonded Phoenix is slain, there is a 15 minute window for the owner of the slain Phoenix to dig through the ashes of their fallen friend to recover the ashes that their Phoenix was originally born of. Find somewhere safe to spread them, and resurrect your companion!
Phoenixes are intelligent creatures, and depending on how you treat them, may not be so quick to forgive you for letting them die...
  • Forgiveness: If you redeem yourself in your Phoenix's eyes, you may be rewarded with a very powerful, one-time-use item.

Left click: Bite
Right click: Fireball
C: Claws (pickaxe damage type, can harvest stone/sulfur for the Phoenix to eat, as well as other resources)
G: Claw carry attack. (easter egg when landed!)
Left Ctrl/Alt+Z/Jump on Controller: Toggle between flight/landing
Hold Spacebar/Left Thumbstick: Supercharge
X: AOE Orb Explosion with 60 sec CD (CD ini configurable, "O" is the key on SP)
N: Toggles fire particles on/off.

“You may kill a fire. And everything you know falls to dust and ash. Yet the remarkable treasure in this seemingly hopeless pile, is hidden deep within. The burning embers incarnate the perpetual desire to go from spark to flame.”

I'm sure there will be bugs to work out. Feel free to comment below with any you find and I'll see what I can do. :)

Special thanks to Lethal from Dino Storage for helping me understand why the way WC handles classnames is real dumb! Thank to Eclipse and Reaper for helping to test features out!

Resurrection Item SPOILERS:Phoenix Tears is the item you get if you successfully revive and restore your Phoenix. It can be used to trigger a large explosion around the player, dealing damage, healing them to full instantly, giving an EXP boost, and giving a movement speed increase. Think of it as your "Oh, ****." button. ;P admincheat gfi Phoenix Tear 1 0 0.

The fire wyvern remap is disabled by default, right? I'm also using KBD and I'm not sure how well it would mesh with Kraken's wyvern changes.

you think you could make the idle animations a bit more smooth (head movement mostly)? they look so stiff and unatural

creatures will sometimes eat phoenix ashes, this didnt really matter to me as i just am gonna cheat in a new phoenix with the same stats, but for servers this would be horrible, pls fix it whenever you get some free time, or whenever you want to:P

Wild phoenix always bumps into textures and gets stuck in them

Could you add an option to increase grab weight?

how can i breed them? i set them on breeding but nothing happens

Yup, the max spawn limit was the issue and the fact I just couldn't find any of them. Scoured the desert for hours on the Isles, nada.

It's strange. I killed all wild, restarted the server and waited 10 mins, spawned one and it stayed. Then i tried again and it disappeared. Perhaps there are already some spawned somewhere and the default max of 3 per map at a time for the mod is deleting my new console spawns?
Godslayer4000 Feb 20 @ 4:57pm
issue not the mod, i get phoenixs on crystal isles fine, spawn command or desert. i think you have a mod conflict my friend.
