Getting hitsound/killsound
First get the hitsound/killsound some sites you can get hitsounds from are gamebanana and huds.tf our you can make your own with audacity the windows app.
Making the hitsound work
First Open TF2 Local Files
Then Click on "TF" File
Now Click on "Custom File"
Create a New Folder Called "hitsound" EXACTLY Like That
Inside THAT Folder Create a New Folder Called "sound" again must be exact
I Know This is Getting Repetitive but Create a Folder Named "ui", Exactly Like That, Inside of That Folder. This is Where the Hitsound/Killsound Will Be Stored
Ignore the fact that i have a sound.cache file in the sound folder that is automatically placed in the sound folder when you launch the game
Place Your Hitsound and/or Killsound in the ui Folder
Note that the hitsoundand killsound are named hitsound and killsound that is what you MUST name them for it to work.
You're Done!!!
IMPORTANT NOTES
  • I found that most other types of files besides .wav files did not work
  • File names must be the exact way I had them.
  • No caps when it comes to file names.
  • Completely ignore the sound.cache file
  • YOU can make your own hit and killsounds using audacity by recording your voice or something else.

You'd probably be best off editing the volume for the sound itself in Audacity
