By KovaaK

1) How to create your own scenarios (which define weapons, characters, bots, dodging AI, etc).
2) How to upload your own scenarios to the workshop.

How to create your own scenarios
Overview

  • Download a scenario from the workshop that you want to use as a starting point (use the blue download button at the far right)
  • Go to the Local Files tab, find the scenario you just downloaded, and click the "Edit" button at the far right.
  • When it asks you if you want to unpack the scenario, click the "Yes" button (this basically unzips the contents of the scenario to individual profiles)
  • Use the dropdown menus at the top of your screen to edit specific profiles that you want to modify.
  • Save the scenario (or Save As to rename the scenario). Then when you play what you saved from the Local Files tab, it will use the changes you made.

First, find a scenario that you want to use as a starting point. If you intend on creating absolutely everything from scratch, you can pick any scenario you want, but using a scenario that has the most in common with what you want to make is the best. Once you've decided on a starting point, go to the Steam Workshop tab of the scenario browser, and click the blue down arrow at the right to download a copy of the scenario to your local hard drive.

From the Local Files tab, click on the Edit button of the scenario you just downloaded.

Click "Yes" when it asks you to unpack everything. Then mouse over the Profile Manager menus at the top to get a list of profiles that make up the scenario. Modify the profiles you want from this list.

The Session Manager at the right lets you change the map and characters for testing purposes, but these choices do NOT affect the scenario you are editing.

If you created new Character or Bot profiles to use, add them to the list of what players and bots can use on the Scenario Editor's Main Tab. Note this will NOT update what is used in the challenge mode (see next step)

Update the Challenge tab with what the player and bots will be when the scenario is played as a challenge, as well as any rules you wish to change.

Once you have made the changes you want, make sure to update the Tags tab of your scenario.

Once you hare happy with your changes, save the scenario. Note that if you want to upload a scenario to the workshop, you have to give it a unique name.

After you are done, when you play this scenario from your Local Files tab it will use the profiles and settings you configured.
How to upload a scenario to the Steam Workshop
From the Local Files tab of the scenario browser, click the green up arrow. If the arrow is missing, either you aren't connected to Steam, or someone already uploaded a scenario to the workshop with that title.

Set the Change Notes if applicable, and click the Upload button.

Important notes on uploading scenarios to the workshop:
  • Once a scenario is successfully uploaded to the workshop, it takes a few minutes before it propagates through Steam's cloud services. Please be patient before you tell your friends to play your new scenario :).
  • If you change a scenario on your Local HD that you previously uploaded to the workshop, that green arrow will light up again and let you update the workshop copy. Or you could go to the workshop tab and download the cloud copy to revert your changes.
  • There is currently no menu to delete an item from the workshop that you uploaded, but you can go to the Steam Workshop webpage, find your entry, and delete it there.
  • Abuse of the workshop will not be tolerated. Low effort content (such as a copy of an existing scenario with no changes but name) will be removed. Repeat offenders and obvious griefers will be banned from uploading to the workshop.

Awesome thanks for the link. I was wanting to port q3/ql maps :)

The main way that I've been making maps is by using Reflex Arena's in-game map editor and copying the .map file directly to the FPS Aim Trainer maps folder. Stral made a guide on how to use a free program and some utilities to make maps for the game, but I haven't tested it myself yet. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1353299801

Can we make our own maps?

Ok I gotcha, its not specifically quake weapons, but fps in general. So unlimited possibilities. and over time more and more will be created by community and author alike, I can dig it!

For now I think specific advice on how to edit profiles might be best left to the Discord Server since there are just so many options in general. Hop in https://discord.gg/Z8hGxnM and ask in the #profiles channel :).

Will there be guides on how to create bot profiles? For example to create new Overwatch heroes or tune the current ones to be easier or harder? Or to create reload cooldowns for the bots (as far as I am concerned only Racer has a reload cooldown).

This is an excellent guide btw, thanks!

Either you'll want to make a rocket launcher weapon or use one of the existing ones in the Weapons dropdown. Then you'd go to the character you want to have the weapon, go to the weapons tab, and click one of the weapon slots to change it to the weapon you want (either what you created or an existing one). I'm thinking about making a mini tutorial on how to do some little changes like this too.
