New game Crash to Desktop FIXED
By Mr. Moyer
FIX FOUND for the glitch where you try to start a new campaign single-player game and the game just crashes out... it's a weird work around though. I'll walk you through it.

Easy work-around done at game menu screen
There is a VERY COMMON glitch for this game where you try to start a new game in campaign mode and it just DIES. No error message usually, it just crashes to desktop. None of the usual fixes do any good, either. Run as admin, run in compatibility mode on Windows, reinstall the game, verify local files with Steam, etc. nothing seems to solve the problem! Until I found this process by accident just by clicking on everything out of desperation.

The following steps outline how I got my game to work. This fix may not work for everyone, so no guarantees! But if you have a similar glitch in your game, you can try this WITHOUT any danger of corrupting any files or moving folders around or any such nonsense.

The "Start New Campaign" function STILL WILL NOT WORK!!! Just be aware of that. This is a work-around that lets you play through a weird sort of back-door, not a direct fix for the problem. I still cannot even identify what the actual cause of the problem is. But at least this method will let you play the game. Probably. It works for me.

  • select Co-op Campaign
  • click Co-op Options: Privacy = "Private"
  • click on LAN game
  • now click on New Game
  • Now it should be at the "waiting for player" screen. Click "Start Single Player."
  • Run through the flying tutorial, and when you are back in Ultor building you can save the game.
  • You may continue to play in LAN mode if you prefer, or...
  • Exit to main menu, and select "Campaign" instead of "Co-Op" this time.
  • LOAD your LAN game into the single player Campaign mode, instead of starting a new game. (Remember the "New Game" button here still will crash the game so only use a previous save file.)
  • In either case, save often.
  • Next time you run the game, you can LOAD your game into Campaign mode without using the LAN setup steps. Yay.

Just remember if you ever want to start over fresh, you will again have to follow these steps and start in a new LAN game before loading into solo campaign mode.

I hope that helped.

That is unfortunate. I'm not a game developer or software engineer so all I can do is give you what worked for me. You can also try some of the other "standard" fixes like validate/verify your Steam game files and set the EXE file properties to include "run as admin" box checked, and "run in compatibility mode" for a previous version of Windows. Then go back and try this method again. But as I said it might not work for everyone so if it still won't work you will have to find a solution elsewhere. Good luck.

Yes I know. That is why I said (several times) "Don't click the New Game button it is still broken." You have to go ghrough the Co-op LAN menu first, then save your game when you are in the Ultor building (or afterwards). Then later you can load that save game instead of hitting the New Game button. If you can't even start a Co-op game, well then I'm sorry but I can't help with that. If you are playing on a laptop, my advice is get a desktop computer with a GeForce GTX 1060 or better graphics card. Laptops usually have dual GPUs that do not play nice together. Everything tries to run off of the stupid "Intel" one instead of your nice 3D graphics one.
