The first underwater rifle, awesome. To bad that the weapon would degrade rapidly outside of water when being fired.

It doesn't fire bullets, it fires long metal rods that pass through water more easily. The wide part of the magazine contains the rods, the small section is the spring assembly.

I don't understand the magazine. Why is it a weird shape like that? Are we firing bullets into the firing pin of the next round?
