EMD GP7 - Louisville & Nashville

This mod adds an EMD GP7 with Louisville & Nashville livery for 6 eras:

  • 1951-1958 - Black w/ cream nose mask
  • 1958-1962 - Basic black & gold
  • 1962-1972 - Gray & yellow
  • 1972-1974 - Gray & yellow (simplied, non-italic text and herald)
  • 1974-1977 - Gray & yellow (yellow nose discontinued)
  • 1977-1982 - SCL/L&N, Gray with red and yellow ribbons.

The Louisville & Nashville railroad was chartered by the Commonwealth of Kentucky in 1850 and operated continuously under the same name for 132 years. It's rail network grew to a 6,000 mile system serving 13 states, stretching to St. Louis, Memphis, Atlanta, and New Orleans. In 1971 L&N became a subsidiary of and later (1982) was absorbed by Seaboard Coast Line. A few years later, Seaboard merged with C&O and B&O to become the Chessie System. Soon after the combined company became CSX.

The EMD GP7 is a four-axle road switcher diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division and General Motors Diesel between October 1949 and May 1954. The EMD GP7 was the first model in EMD'S GP (General Purpose) series of locomotives.

Over the lifespan of the GP7's, a series of L&N paint schemes were employed. When initially introduced, the GP7 was given an EMD designed paint scheme of black with cream colored nose. However, the initial paint scheme didn't wear well and was labor intensive. In an effort to cut costs and keep engines running, a simple black paint scheme was implemented in 1958. New management in 1962 brought a bright new gray and yellow paint scheme with a nod to the original paint scheme. Later this scheme was simplified, first going to an all yellow nose and non-italic lettering, to finally omitting the yellow nose altogether. In the 1970's, while operating as a subsidiary of Seaboard Coast Line, a dark gray scheme was used with red and yellow ribbons with an SCL/L&N logo and the phrase 'Family Lines System'.

  • DDS textures
  • Aging with dirt and rust.
  • Multi-unit double traction units.
  • Engines as rail assets.

Technical Details:
  • Max Speed: 65 mph (105 kph)
  • Power: 1,500 horsepower (1,119 kW)
  • Tractive Effort: 61,500 lbf (274 kN)
  • Availability: (based on era)
  • Cost: (determined by game)

  • This mod adds new vehicles to the game without altering anything currently existing in the game.
  • This is a repaint of Urban Games EMD GP9. Without model rework, there may be inaccuracies.
  • Custom colors are not supported.

Known Issues:
  • The in-cab camera points backwards. This is to do with original model being oriented long hood forward.
  • The multi-unit icon shows everything on 2nd unit backwards, including logos and wording. This is because game is using only one icon image and flipping it for the 2nd unit.

No, I don't have any plans for L&N steam locomotive or carriage at this time.

I realy like this mod, I actually remember seeing these engines when I was a little kid. Thanks for showing the old L&N some love. :)

@[HOG]Hawkeye - I like the way you think. Researching new projects and ran across B&O EMD F7A at NC Transportation Museum. Pretty engine that I'd like to do, but will require some modeling work and some time.

@VandelayOfficial - I agree. I've been wanting to add prop versions for a while, just needed to take the time to figure it out. Eventually I'll go back and update my other engine mods to include prop versions.

Can you please make a Louisville and Nashville SD40-2
VandelayOfficial Jan 11 @ 3:20pm
I love the fact you added prop versions!! Literally every mod should have that.

Maybe some B&O? And F units! Someone needs to make F units (multiple roads)! :D

@mcnigro - I have all requests on a list,... a very, very long list, which I am working through as best I can.
