CalFree in Chains

The California Free State has fallen. Only the People's University and a handful of allies dare to challenge General Saito's tyrannical reign, but how can so few hope to stand against the brutal power of the Protectorate and its megacorp backers?

Welcome back for one final run in the San Francisco Bay Area Sprawl! This campaign picks up shortly after the end of The Caldecott Caper.

I strongly recommend downloading the Shadowrun Music Replacer, a standalone utility that updates the Hong Kong music. You’ll need to do this from a full Web browser, not the Steam one.

This campaign is complete, and most players have been able to play from start to finish without encountering major bugs. If you run into any issues, just pop them into the bug thread so I can fix them!

More Info

See the FAQ for more information, tips, and hints.

Please be considerate of your fellow players and use spoiler tags when discussing plot. You can mark spoilers like this:

Was anyone else surprised to learn that
Audran was working for Vauclair
?

Last but not least, if you like CalFree in Chains, please tell someone else about it! I have a Decking of 4 but a Charisma of 1, so I could use some more runners to help get the word out in Shadowland. Giving a thumbs up also makes the campaign more visible in Steam, which helps other players find it. Thanks in advance!

This was unbelievably good! I might have enjoyed this more than Dragonfall!

This remains a masterpiece. So much creativity, skill, thought, care and love went into this. Leaves a lasting mark long after finishing. Thanks Cirion.

@mtdupler I had this problem and I suspect it was Sophos anti-virus that caused the problem. Hope this helps

I just finished the campaign, this is hands down the best mod I've had the pleasure of experiencing. I would like to thank the creator for an emotional and unforgettable story. The lessons and expression are without a doubt masterful. Again, thank you.

@mtdupler: there are so many possibilities. Windows firewall should never be disabled unless you made changes to its settings and broke internet. Have you been able to install other mods besides this one? Does the SR:HK game play okay by itself? Does it check for updates? Do you have other mods installed? Are you out of disk space on the laptop?

tech Q: I can't seem to get this to D/L to my laptop to play. Support said networking so I disabled all firewalls in windows 10 and it just won't show up for me to play. Anyone? thanks

this is also the first time I play with the dev. commentaries on and it's been very, very interesting to read about your whole design process ( and I found there's al lot I agree about, specially on the rather rigid good/evil system many 2000s RPGs really like to hammer into their narrative, it seems to be fading in storytelling-heavy RPGs nowadays )

oh on an additional final note ( sorry for clogging the comment section ) I loved the music choices in the music replacer addon, and I gotta give you massive thanks for introducing me to Invocation Array, their stuff is awesome and completely down my alley and been listening to them since 2018

hey Cirion, just wanted to say, just finished playing all the Antumbra/Cirion Saga ( I uh, don't really know what to call the whole thing :D ) UGCs again, this time in order of release ( last time i played Caldecott, Calfree and then the OG Dragonfall UGC ), though technically this is the 3rd time I play Calfree, it's just that great, still as awesome, the story beats are just as impacting

the general message of particularly CalFree is still as strong as ever, hell I'd say it's even more relevant than back in 2018, many of the issues discussed ( through analogues ) about the rise and normalization of far-right extremism and supremacist ideologies that are rearing their ugly head all over the world
