The High Floor Dilemma

Description
A dilemma is a problem offering two possibilities, neither of which is practically acceptable... Will you be able to overcome both of them to find the true solution?

No ninja moves, cube throwing or funnel tricks involved... Have fun!

Hint: They are sentient of course, we just have a lot of them.

This map should have more subscribers.
I really like the way you have to solve this map.

Only thing I don't like: The map is too short.

Heh, didn't expect such a late comment!

Do you think I should remove the cube button? It was super-obvious to me that you have to reset your portals if you want to use it, but you're not the first one droven crazy because of it... Not that I didn't expect to drive people crazy, but I'm not a fan of red herrings either...

It's cool to know that one's puzzles stick on people's minds for so much time... Congrats for solving it eventually!

Oh my - after almost a year I solved it. I spent soooo much time in that small room with the cube dropper button - that was the king of all Red Herrings !! This is the ONLY map I have ever done with this type of solution - ingenious !!!!!!!

my luck was, that the light bridge is small enough :)

Agh, I thought about that too, but I wasn't able to execute it... O_o

Just relax and think out of the box. Once you've figured it out, it should be stupidly simple to execute... ;)

I solved it another way but it is probably not intended since it only equired 5 portals. . I walked to the area where the exit door is and shot an Orange portal on the side up high and a Blue portal on the side down low. I put the cube in halfway through the Blue portal so that half the cube was sticking out up high and low. and jumped on the cube and crouched. Then moved forward so that I was coming out the Orange portal up high but still balanced on the cube, and shot the Blue portal into the top funnel surface which funnelled me and the cube together to the other side, pinning us against the wall. Then I jumped down, stood on button, shot portal to move cube backacross sideways and then shot into the flipped surface to pin cube against light bridge, then stepped off button to drop cube onto top button.and door opened.

From what I read in your previous comment, you did a bit of funnel trickery... well, you don't need anything like that at all... ;)

The cube is not supposed to slip by the light bridge in any way. I tried to do it myself and I had to be a bit stubborn to get it, so I think it's obvious enough that this solution is unintended. I'll release an update of the map if the 'snap portal to grid' feature is ever added to the PTI editor. Otherwise I prefer to keep the map design as clean as it is now...

I added a hint to the map description yesterday, which may help you a bit without spoiling the solution... ;)

I will retry this. My solution did not involve Ninja moves. However it did seem a bit too "odd" which did make me wonder if it really was the intended solution. I usually always solve the smaller maps like this - but this one - well I just am having trouble. That's what I want, oddly - maps that I don't get - LOL.

Well, I've seen levels where it's important, and because it's singled out like that I thought it would be used to solve it. You could technically just not make the first cube drop and it has a use, lol.

Yeah, you're right there... the cube replacement button is not part of the solution, but that's how it is in most levels. I added it because It's possible (although very unlikely) to get the cube stuck at the high floor...
The way the button is placed may give a hint to the intented solution, though...
