Actively in development Metacell is a sci-fi thriller that is being told over five parts, each with a different gameplay experience. Its first installment Genesis is a puzzle game that uses different variations of the match 3 mechanic. Download beta01[] and try out what we have so far.

Metacell: Genesis is a puzzle game with several different game modes offering several variations of the match 3 mechanic. Upon release there will be 6 different game modes; Arcade, Battle, Challenge, Puzzle, Story and Super Awesome Mode. Each of these game modes give a completely different player experience; for example Arcade Mode generates that intensity and difficulty of the old school arcade games while puzzle mode, is more relaxing and casual, like many of the standard puzzle games today. I’ll go into a bit more detail into each of the game modes below.

Arcade Mode (Currently Playable in Beta01*)[] This mode was inspired by those old-school arcade games I grew up with and I wanted to emulate that experience within our own game. The basic gist of Arcade mode is to score 1,000,000 points or survive to level 100 by fighting back a never ending spawn of game pieces by making matches of 3 or more before the board fills up or even worse you are killed by one of the traps that could spawn at any moment. There are some things to make it not so hopeless; like some cool pickups, bombs and even extra lives.

Battle Mode (Currently Playable As A Boardgame)[] Unlike the other game modes where you are battling the Metacell this mode has the player characters battling each other. The story concept of this mode is that you are playing a training game developed for the crew to play to sharpen the needed skills to defeat the Metacell. Challenge Mode This mode is for those completionist and collectathoners. You are given a list of challenges that will be modifications, twists mash-ups and a whole bunch of other neat little things to the other game modes that you will have to complete to collect all those fancy awards that you can sit and stare at later.

Puzzle Mode (Playable Soon In Beta02) Metacell experienced with that casual relaxing puzzle feel that we are all used to. Designed similarly to arcade mode minus all the stress and pressure, you are given a defined board to start out and you have to remove all the game pieces by making matches of 3 or more to win. But the challenge is at any moment the number of game pieces can increase in number or an active game piece will becomes a mine that must be removed before it detonates causing undue trouble.

Story Mode This mode takes you through the story of Metacell: Genesis. You get to chose your character, watch awesome cutscenes, select how they react to situations changing the story and battling the metacell through a super cool exciting fashion. In Beta01 you can see some of our rough cut scenes and some of the basic technology already developed and working but the gameplay is only Arcade Mode.

Super Awesome Mode One of the coolest and most exclusive of the game modes. This one is only going to be available to those that will be getting the collectors edition. I don’t want to spoil what it is but just know it involves the match 3 mechanic in a really neat way. Gotta have that suspense you know.

Summary Metacell is a sci-fi thriller that takes place in a distant future in which mankind has organized under a single galactic empire called the Imperium.

Having already mapped and expanded deep within their universe, the Imperium has turned their attention to what lies beyond, and they found it. They discovered the means to breach the walls of our verse and create a gateway to the other side, the Metaverse.

Once there the Holy Caste began their research into the newly discovered realm. Blinded by their eagerness for knowledge, they created an abomination known only as the Metacell. This monstrosity is a single-celled organism born from both meta and prime material, and mere moments after its creation it began to evolve and adapt at astronomical rates, escaping its containment and threatening the entirety of existence.

Now only one man and his crew have even the slightest chance to defeat the Metacell and save both of the verses.

Part 1 - Genesis The entry point into the saga this starts when the Imperium Palace gets word that the Genesis Project has gone terribly wrong and the Metacell has escaped and threatens the verses if not stopped. The protagonist High Paladin Dominic Moore and his crew are called in from their much needed vacation to put their lives on the line for what could be their last mission as they head to the Härkönen Abyss where Heaven’s Gate lies and enter the metaverse to defeat their foe.

A little bit about us, we are just a few friends that wanted to make something awesome, so that’s what we are doing.

We have been bootstrapping this project with no funding since day one (April 20, 2011) and have accomplished a♥♥♥♥♥♥ton and we continue to keep crushing it. The only thing that sucks is we have to budget our time on the project very carefully. We all have day jobs and families that take up the majority of our time. So development to say has been slow moving but forward movement none the less.

Beta02 is coming soon! With puzzle mode, new gui, more badass space metal, a completely rebuilt engine and on a brand new platform the iPad!

Thank you guys so much for believing in us and our project. It has been a long hard road but we have made it to the summit. Now before we begin our decent we are just gonna sit and enjoy the view a few more. Starting this week we will be shifting a lot of our time around to increase our development time.

You guys got us to steam now its our turn to get you the finish product.

Again this is such a cool moment in our journey, thank you.
