A Short Guide on How To Play Blitz

A guide on Blitz's basics, mechanics and gameplay.

i) Introduction

Elias Kötz, also known as Blitz, is a student of the Hermann-Böse-Gymnasium. Blitz excels both academically and physically. Blitz brought his experience on the field into his military training. Blitz is an Attacking Operator, part of the GSG 9 and is unique due to his G52-Tactical Shield, capable of blinding enemies that are within the range of effectiveness—Thus making him an excellent and effective point man.

ii) Loadout

PRIMARY

Blitz only has one primary, which is the G52-Tactical Shield. It is equipped with 3 rows with 8 flash-bang grenades, blinding effects are as the graph below shows.


SECONDARY

Blitz also only has one secondary, which is the P12, a unique pistol available to the GSG 9 Operators. The P12 has decent damage, with 16 rounds in its clip, best used for mid-range combat. Equip a muzzle brake and laser sights for better hip firing and accuracy.

GADGETS

The preferred gadget for Blitz. The Smoke Grenade can be used for covering advances and blinding Defenders, do note that the Smoke Grenade can provide cover for the Defenders. The Smoke Grenade is also paired really well with Glaz.


The breaching charge should only be taken if no one else in your team has this gadget equipped.

iii) Breaching

As a shield operator, you do NOT want to rappel, as your shield will prove to be useless. What you want to do, is breach in through the same floor, preferably walls, and not the main door. Before charging into the room, you should send your drone in to scout the general location of the enemies, so you know where to face after entering the room. If you don't have any means of droning the room, I always go with a quick sweep scout, peek right to left, a quick scan of the room. After breaching the room, do NOT turn around to check whether your team is following you or not. When I first began playing Blitz, I repeat this mistake and often get myself killed. You'll have to hope that they follow you, and if they play tactically and push in together with you, you and your team will be victorious. If you're breaching a room and there are two enemies, one on the left and the other on the right, depending on your angle, smoke one enemy's vision and take out the other enemy.

iv) Stances

The above pictures shows Blitz when he is aiming down sight, and when he isn't. As you can see, while standing, Blitz's legs are vulnerable. The ideal position to be in as Blitz, is staying crouched. This way, the only way they can hit you effectively is from the side and back, as for the front—only your hand is vulnerable. When you aim down sight, your lower half of the body is covered, but your head is vulnerable, and you have a very large hitbox!

v) Shooting

The only time where you want to shoot someone, is when they are stationary, and staring at you. If they do so, allign the center of your screen on their head, hold RMB and left click after a second—if done right, this will always lead to a hit to their head, and they'll rarely be able to counter you, unless they can outclick you in one second. Another time when you shoot at an enemy, is when they're standing in front of your face. If they do so, go ahead and flash them, and do NOT aim down sight! Let them empty their clip, before you aim down sight, and while they're blindly spraying, take slow and accurate hip fire shots at them. You don't want to immediately aim down sight after blinding them because chances are they'll get lucky and hit your huge head hitbox.

vi) Teamplay

As a point man, you're going to have to stick together with your team, standing at the front close to your teammates. Blitz works best when you have a friend you can communicate with via voice, blind the enemy and he'll stand up from behind your shield to take the hostile down. The practical way for a duo formation to work, is for you to face the front and your friend to guard your rear. Blitz can also guard an ally planting the defuser, although this isn't really effective as your shield only covers half the height of most operators. As for securing the hostage, Blitz should be the one to grab the hostage, while his teammates guard him. This is due to Blitz placing his tactical shield on his back, meaning that when you're running away, the enemies have to take careful and precise shots to land their hits on you as you make your getaway.

vii) Weaknesses

Blitz has quite a few weaknesses. One of them being he is a slow operator, meaning that he 3 speed operators—especially shotgun users, can put him in a very dangerous position. Most of the time, when they throw a nitro cell at you, the only way you can protect yourself is to face the nitro cell directly—you are too slow to run away from the explosion radius, unless if it is poorly thrown. Another weakness Blitz has is that he can not immediately attack the enemies, as his shots will be inaccurate. Blitz gives this moment for their enemies to relay information to each other and his position will be compromised. Blitz flash shield also has a pretty short range, so while you're outside of the map, your ability is next to useless.

viii) Conclusion

Blitz is a fun and strong operator to play. He can be played with enjoyment in casuals but in terms of ranked play, he'll have to struggle a bit. Unless you're using Montagne, pretty much every shield operator's legs are exposed, which means every shield user will have to be crouching.
And yes, as the main tank, if your teammates don't follow you and you lose the round, its all on them. General rule of shields is that at least one guy follow him as a rifler
