Act I available now, and IGF nominations
Release date: Act I in January 2013 and the remaining four acts over the following year or so
Kentucky Route Zero is a magical realist adventure game about a secret highway in the caves beneath Kentucky, and the mysterious folks who travel it. Gameplay is inspired by point-and-click adventure games (like the classic Monkey Island or King's Quest series, or more recently Telltale's Walking Dead series), but focused on characterization, atmosphere and storytelling rather than clever puzzles or challenges of skill.

The game is developed by Cardboard Computer (Jake Elliott and Tamas Kemenczy). The soundtrack features an original electronic score by Ben Babbitt along with a suite of old hymns & bluegrass standards recorded by The Bedquilt Ramblers.

We've been developing Kentucky Route Zero for the last two years. We'll be releasing it in five acts over the course of the next year. Act one is available now at for Windows & Mac. It's $7, or $25 to buy all five acts in advance (along with some extras like soundtrack mp3s and a private newsletter). Folks who purchase the game directly through us will also receive a Steam key when the game is available on Steam.

For a "bluegrass adventure game" that looks this hot I'll wait until 2020 if I have to.

As gloriously close to approaching the work of the Coen Brothers and Jeunet & Caro as games can probably come.

Finished act 1, pretty good so far. Menus are beyond awful though, hope to see them improved before this game is complete.

This game looks amazing, and the music and atmosphere gives a similar feel to limbo. I might need to buy this game.
