Ascent of the Hrafn: A Norse Flavour mod

-A large expansion to playing as a character with the Germanic pagan religion
-Focus on RPing as the new Head of the Faith (Oðinnshrafn, or Odin’s Raven, called Fylkir in vanilla)
-Draws on the fascinating mythology of the Norse to immerse the player in a world that could have been, had Scandinavia not largely converted to Christianity in the Middle Ages.
-Some features are available at game start, but the mod comes into its own once you have reformed the faith

With Hellblade just released and God of War on the horizon, I’m guessing some of you might be thinking of starting the game again as a Norse character. Don’t do so without this mod!

Main features
-New powers for the Head of the faith, alongside his new title of Oðinshrafn (Odin’s raven)
-New lore around the reformed faith, with rich and immersive flavour events
-A new Holy Order, the Þorshamrar (Hammers of Thor).
-Send your courtiers to the Halls of Faith to become Eiðmenn (Oathsmen, powerful warrior monks) or Friggjarsniptar (Sisters of Frigg). These function somewhat like monks and nuns
-Two new societies: Kappa af Miðgarðr (Champions of Midgard), a sect of the most powerful warriors who compete to be crowned the Kappi-Efstr (Grand Champion); and the Order of the Vanir, modelled on the monastic orders, but with powers such as healing and cursing rituals. Also made the Hermetic Order accessible to reformed and feudal Norse Pagans
-Powerful new artifacts with complex acquisition event chains, based on Norse mythology
-To come: New heresies, including a ‘purity’ based heresy that aims to stamp out some of the more barbaric practices of the Norse

Version: CK2.7.2 (latest patch as of date of publishing this mod).
DLC: The Old Gods, to be able to play as a pagan. Some features (e.g Societies) require the relevant DLC
Ironman: No.
CK2+ and HIP: workshop version not compatible, merge files available on the forum linked below
Other mods: Quite sizeable, so may clash with other mods. Visit the forum for a quick guide on how to check
Language: English, and I’ve used Google Translate for French, German & Spanish.

I hope you enjoy this mod, it has been a bit of a labour of love for me and I’m excited to hear your feedback. Please leave it in the comments below.

*Regarding compatibility with other mods: See the forum page linked above for more info on how to check this. Please consider doing this and checking yourself for mod clashes before asking me in the comments, as it’s quite quick and easy to check yourself and I’m not always going to know as I might not have the same mod.

IMPORTANT: The Form the Monastic Orders and Order of the Vanir society were broken on the previous version. This has now been fixed, so you should be able to do this. But if you have already taken this decision on your save and cannot see the society, please input 'set_flag robmodnorse_monks_activated' (without the inverted commas) into the console, and they should now work.

Are any of these features available to non-Germanics?

@Peter34 All warrior culture is gay. The Vikings were pansexual.
ditto the Spartans, ditto the Byzantine Imperials, the list is endless!

The seidrmenn were social outcasts, because they were thought to be effeminate, i.e. gender-nonconforming.

Or, in modern parlance: it was totally gay for a man to practice seidr.

@SpaceViking There were also Seidmenn, the male ones, but as far as we know the ''magic'' part was majority women, leave it to the fairer gender to cast a curse on you, some things never change

Keep up the good work buddy!

Has the mod been reworked for Holy Furty yet?
Grimhat Dec 14, 2018 @ 12:03pm
I'm working on a rework of the mod, but it is taking much longer than originaly planed, as I lack the time and health to work on it ATM. Hopefully I'll be able to get a version out before the end of the year:/
