Description
Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. 8K x 2K. No Industries.

Unfortunately the full resolution map of Vancouver Island requires 16K x 5K which is larger than Transport Fever (currently?) supports, so here is a half-resolution version (which is still a large map).

@mweb: if you have subscribed, you will find the heightmap in
\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\446800\1073297701\maps\Vancouver Island 8K-NoIND\heightmap.png

If it's useful to you, I also have the original-resolution version of the heightmap at about twice the resolution of the above one (16385x5121), or even the original-original unrotated heightmap (15623x18642). If you want either, send an email to ask.software.simian@gmail.com

hello, I don't have transport fever installed at the moment( I do own it) but I would like a copy of the map file for use in Blender. I subscribed but cannot find the map file. Can you help please?

Wow, fantastic! Added to the Canada Collection.

Thanks for sharing your method. I should give it a go... as for my Golden Horseshoe map, I basically just traced over the geodata heightmap.

I grabbed raw elevation data from geogratis.gc.ca for the area in question (in two pieces since it's larger than the maximum allowed 50,000km^2), then parsed that ~6GB of text data with a PHP script and output a PNG image with elevation scaled from 0-2180m to grayscale range 0-255. Unfortunately the GeoGratis data is exclusively Canadian so did not include the surrounding USA (Olympic peninsula, islands, mainland). I grabbed that data from terrain.party in 0.2° tiles and stitched the parts together I needed. Then layer it all up in Photoshop and do a lot of manual cleanup.

A good guide for map creation is Xanos' Easy Custom Map Creation

Fantastic map! What a challenge!!! Just one question, how do you actually create the map so big? I've been trying using the map tool on transportfever.net but every time I get the same size medium map? Cheers - Joe

What an incredible looking map. I haven't played TF properly for a while lately, but i'm gona fire it up just to play this map. Great effort, well done. Big thumbs up from me. 5 star map all the way.
