Build 5 available!
IndieDB's 2012 Indie of the Year
Pioneers is a turn based exploration game with some RPG elements where you lead a party of pioneers in discovery of new lands. Each explorer has different professions, skills and attributes. You start out in a town where you first have to assemble your party from the tavern, plan out and buy equipment you need from the supply store and get yourself a ship. Or two. Then by conversing with different people you get quests, which may be to follow the steps of the previous explorers that never came back and find out what happened, find treasures, compose an accurate map, find contact with unknown native tribes and 'export' religion or simply be the first to disover a piece of the world. You do all that while surviving the harsh environments with seasons that change each bringing with them a different set of challenges, fighting wildlife and tribespeople, finding food and water and trying not to die of dysentery.

Another crucial aspect of the game is communication. You see, when you encounter an unknown tribe you are not able to understand them because they speak an unknown language. All foreign communication in the game takes place in form of icons/symbols/glyphs that you have to decipher.

The game is currently very much in production but a few very early alpha builds have been released.

Everything you see, feel and hear in the game is created by me. I hope you like it :)

You know, this kind of reminds me of Oregon Trail. I like this idea, and see where it could go.

Ran accross this game today at random and did a cover video on my youtube channel. I don't get much traffic but I felt this game was worth giving some publicity. Will check it from time to time to see the progress, I gave it a like here as well. Good luck.

Itsamazing, enough said. Could use some more advertising though, more people would play it if they would find it without too much difficulty. Also, I lost the tutorial because i kept dieing. Umm may want to fix that.

This is the kindest comment I've gotten yet. It really made my day and put a great smile on my face. Thank you! :) The game is progressing once again. It was rather slow during most of the summer but lately I've been cracking along. Hope to release a new build soon. It contains quite a lot of new things, so all-around better experience I hope.

been a while since last I checked up on you; hope progress is coming along (in whatever pace life allows it to) - had one of the greatest gaming-experiences in years whilst playing build 5 and am really hoping to see this game make it. I realize that being an indie game-developer isn't always enough to put food on the table, etc. but I do sincerely believe that this game has potential to become something extraordinary and that you'll find plenty of people willing to (financially) back you up
