I’m really just a spherical 6.2-kilogram subcritical mass of plutonium 239 89 millimeters in diameter, manufactured during World War II by the United States nuclear weapon development effort, the Manhattan Project, as a fissile core for an early atomic bomb. Surrounded by two half spheres of beryllium (a neutron reflector) manually lowered using a screwdriver physicist Louis Slotin would lower the spheres and measure my radioactivity at some point the screwdriver would slip causing the spheres to close around me giving a lethal dose of 1,000 rads to him which he would later die of 9 years later. Everyone else in the room would die as well, while not from the radiation, most less than 30 years after the incident but almost all from unnatural causes bar 2 perhaps 3 other men. I was originally known as Rufus before this experiment but now I am known as the Demon Core.
