Der Anbau von Kartoffeln ist unkompliziert. Die Pflanzen gedeihen am besten auf leichten bis mittelschweren Böden ohne Staunässe. Gerne wird die Kartoffel als erste Kultur auf Flächen angebaut, die gerade erst gerodet bzw. urbar gemacht worden sind, da man durch die häufigen Hack- und Häufelarbeiten aufkommende Wildkräuter gut in Schach halten kann.
