How do you explain all the advanced weaponry on your so called "Scientific and Exploration" vessel?

Our weaponry capable of destroying entire planets are purely for self-defence! We are on a peaceful mission, and we seek peaceful coexistence! I repeat, we are peaceful!

@Airmaster: that kind of thing is really impressive, the comprehensive and coherent thought that goes into the designs. I currently just have base game + Crusades... which DLCs would you recommend?

@nestor_d: immensely helpful, thank you! especially the tip about scaling!

And also, I've noticed that someone made a Federation "battle group" as a single ship - I assume they actually used the translation tool in creative ways?

Lol yes, I think Omnibus's designs are pretty good too.

While you are here! I was looking to use your Xindi fleet for a custom faction. For Huge Hulls, I wanted designs that looked like scaled up versions of Large equivalents. I am a great fan of how your fleet style designs actually allow for this to some degree. That is part of why I asked about how to get an overall fleet aesthetic.

But for the Xindi fleet, I find that 1 more design that looks like your Ateleth and Deonida would be good. :) Thetela (Large) scales up well to Ateleth (Huge). Pincer (Large) and Deonida (Huge) also look like they go well together. But the other Huge hulls look quite different, they're the Aquatic models (I think) with bulbous shapes.

I've tried to modify Ateleth and Deonida myself, but I am failing utterly lol. I suspect also I may not have all the parts you use, because I don't have all the expansions.

Do any experienced shipbuilders here have tips for how to get started? How does one get a decent hull going?

What I want to be able to do is to create a fleet that conforms to a more or less coherent design aesthetic. But the library is not very easy to navigate, and I go "argleblargleflaargggh" after a while.

Is there perhaps a list of go-to bulkheads or something? What are the relevant design principles? And so on...
no mods, but this happened to me

not with mercenaries... with my shipyard lists

i only have base game with Crusades, no mercenaries

Icons all messed up in Shipyard list and on strategic map.

Custom faction with custom ship style.

The Privateer ship becomes something that looks like a Pirate ship model, but bears the name of one of my Medium hull designs. All other existing ships with that design now have the pirate ship icon.

Shipyard list is suddenly messed up, with random weird mismatched icons and ship stats. Previous designs are still accessible, so the game can still continue after a fashion.

Earth I, Earth III, Earth IV, etc...

Also the sun is now called "Earth"

there doesn't seem to be any option to increase the frequency of those events. galactic events are not the same, and don't give ideology. I don't have Crises, but even if I did they seem to TEST ideology, more than they give it. As for the types of events that give big chunks of ideology, there's no option in the standard setup screen. Unless you are suggesting modding...

Altarians are still Peaceful and Spiritual as of 3.6

Enhanced Lasers are still not right, Prototype Durantium Driver is still there

Also, if correcting typos and such is a priority, there are really quite a lot left...
Your second one is interesting. :) But then in the flavor text for the tech tree our scientists should probably stop trying to claim credit. :p

Every planet I have has the improvement(s). It is still nigh-impossible unless I deliberately skip turns to prolong the game, which is a silly grind.

Do you have the achievements? If so, what were your campaigns like?
I've completed a number of sessions now as several factions, some of them on Huge maps. The closest I've come is with the Drengin, with close to 50 planets by the end, and only because I could get Ideology points from conquering.
