Animation, cartoons, anime whatever you like to call it, or however you define it it often doesn’t get the respect it deserves in the U.S. Too often it is regulated to a child’s world, and while there is a great deal of animation both good and bad aimed at children, there is an entire world of animated films and TV shows that cover a wide range of topics and are not simply explosions and giant robots (though some of those are quite good).

Many in the U.S. look at animation from a very lofty position that peaks at the top of their nose and ends somewhere around the size of an 8 year old. We will gladly watch hours of Kim Kardashian, Duck Dynasty, and Honey Boo Boo, but put on even the best of some animated show and you will frequently get “Oh I don’t like cartoons.”
