Why, you may ask? Because it lets you build any railway, real or fictional, anywhere in the world. You want to recreate the Trans-Siberian railway? Sure, go right ahead. You want to build a railway in antarctica? Yep, you can do that as well, but don't expect it to make any money...

Having touched the financial aspect of the game already, there's two modes:
- Normal Mode, where you're given a thousand million dollars, and the option to take out up to three loans of up to three thousand million dollars each. You need to make a profit by transporting passengers or else you go bankrupt.
- Unlimited Money, which is basically sandbox mode. You can build whatever you like, wherever you like, no matter the cost.

In the base game, you get three types of rails plus bridges and tunnels, as well as a few trains with fictional names, which are based on real life trains. However, Carlos, the developer, has implemented Steam Workshop integration and mod support from day one, which allows you to download hundreds, if not thousands, of train, track and other mods, most of which are of very high quality.

Being an Early Access title, the game is still being developed, and new features are added with updates on a more or less regular basis. Bugs are almost non-existent, which I was very pleasantly surprised by. In all of my currently over 200 hours of gameplay, I haven't encountered a single bug, though I do not want to deny the possibility of there being a few minor ones. It's Early Access after all.

TL;DR: NIMBY Rails lets you build any railway you want. The choice of trains and tracks is steadily expanding, both in the base game and the Workshop. If you want a bit of a challenge, try playing without unlimited money and see how far your funds take you. Another plus: NIMBY is very polished for an Early Access game. So if you like trains or building complex networks, this is the game for you!
