Sorry you lost your progress, it sucks but hopefully the method I shared with you works out (if you ever need it that is). And either way now you know it exists.

You can import savefiles, It's just annoying and elusive.
It's a bit tricky to explain so just know I'm trying my best.
(I'm also going to phrase it as if you had downloaded a savefile off of the internet to make it easier to explain.)

1. After downloading your save go to:
C:\Users\(Username)\AppData\Roaming\DarkSoulsIII\(Folder with random numbers and letters)
2. Open the dowloaded file with your perferred extractor and find the .sl2 file in there.
3. Start the game
4. Get into the "Load Game" screen and tab out of the game.
5. Replace the file in the folder with the one you downloaded.
6. Get back in the game and load your savefile.

And if all went accordingly you should be in your character just as you left them.
