BottomLine at the Top:
A good title that could have been a great one if not for some unforced errors. Still, def worth playing for all the 80's kids and P&C afficionados.

Intro:
Ahhh the 80's in the US of A. What a great time to be alive... 'cept for, ya know, anyone poor or belonging to any kind of minority group and what have you. Overlooking them though (as was done in the 80's) you had great music, style, movies, and of course the briefest of opportunities to catch the now extinct 'Merican dream. I personally think the peak of 80's nostalgia was around 2015 but for those of us Xenials that haven't completely given up in the second decade of the 21st century, this game is a nice reminder that we were alive for the briefest of times during which we all thought we had a shot at living in something resembling a normal world. Hahaha, ohhh how naive we were...

Jesus that was depressing to write...Hey! Did I mention they licensed You Spin Me Round by Dead or Alive!?! Thats fun!

Pros:
-Excellent soundtrack with some licensed 80's music.
-Well animated sprite animations
-Enough references and in-jokes to power the most inefficient nostalgia fueled engine out there
-Classic P&C interface
-Fully voice acted
-Hotspot highlight function

Meh...:
-There are some weird pronunciations and stiff dialogue at times ( "I turn it on", "I Turn it Off"). It’s like 99% fine, but that only makes that 1% stick out all the more.
-The hitboxes on certain scenes either encompass so much of the screen or are so numerous that it’s hard to find a spot to click to move the characters around.
-This game has the most "Its locked" or "Its Closed" responses to actions I think I've ever seen in a P&C Game.
-Not a fan of the big yellow boxes around all the inventory items. This is a nitpick yes, but thats what the "Meh" section is for.
-I have mixed feelings about the multiple ending’s aspect of this game. Not sure if I'll go back to see the other ones or not, would rather that energy was put into making a single-track story.

Cons:
-No manual save slots. For a game with multiple endings this is unforgiveable.
-This title had a puzzle flow that varied from straightforward to complete "What the f*** do I do now?!?". To complete one of the endings of this game took about 6 hours and I think at least a solid hour of that was going back and forth clicking everything on the inventory on everything in the scenes. This is especially strange given that there is a hotspot highlight function. For whatever reason, some things just still did not register despite using that function and it was a frustrating experience.

Final Thoughts:
I normally don't give letter grades in my reviews but in this case I think I will: B-. It’s better than passing in terms of me giving a recommendation, but the combination of negatives and the cumulative score of the "Meh's" bumped it down to the B-. And again it’s kinda unfortunate as I think these were avoidable issues. Still though, I overall enjoyed the game and would absolutely recommend it at its current holiday sales price. Though there was some room left for a sequel, I have a feeling there will not be. If there ends up being one id def check that out too.

Every positive thing I could say about this game (including great dialogue, funny story, excellent voice acting, fantastic original soundtrack) as well as any thing neutral (only a few save slots) or negative (none) are completely overridden by the fact that this game is about a talking giraffe wearing a top hat and monocle. The entire game could be ♥♥♥♥ (it isn’t) and I would still play it for that fact alone. In fact, what are you doing reading this, just go buy it already!

BottomLine at the Top:
Describing this as "Wish.com Leisure Suit Larry" is pretty accurate.

Intro:
After playing this quick lil' dirty game I gotta say I think there was some loss potential here. The basic set, setting, and characters are decent but it ends up not really going anywhere.

Pros:
-Lol the title
-Tits and Ass, always a good thing
-Starts right up, no setup nonsense
-hotspot locator

Meh...:
-Generic and overly used sprite animations
-Same 15 second sound track on a loop. Its not too bad though, kinda like porn elevator music.
-Hotspot locator is buggy at times, will click on it and it lasts for like a second
-Minimal Steam achievements. I'm not big on these anyway so no big loss.
-Autosave only. Game is pretty short but I'm sure this is disappointing for the coomers out there.

Cons:
-No voice acting really kills the whole experience. I can imagine getting a few good VA's would have brought things to life.
-Some scripting errors, things like explaining how an item will be useful because X said it is but you have yet to meet up with X
-At one point my cursor disappeared and I had to restart.

Final Thoughts:
Overall game is pretty short and lacks depth. We end up losing out on a lot of opportunities for comedy or just to do interesting stuff.

That being said I feel after writing this review that me making those criticisms is like complaining that Porkys had shallow character development and blase cinematography. It’s a goofy comedy smut game, like I tell chicks at the bar ya gotta lower your standards here. Titles like this are to me what I think those cat puzzle games are to some people. Just a mindless way to pass the time. It’s like hygge for perverts. If you’re in the same category go ahead and pick it up but don't expect Leisure Suit Larry levels of entertainment and quality.

Emerson once said, “I cannot remember the books I’ve read any more than the meals I have eaten; even so, they have made me.” I don’t know why I remember this quote. As someone who, much like the protagonist of this game, deals with a lifetime of brain damaging activities and experiences it’s rare I remember any kind of quote. For people like us, namely those that concurrently fear and crave nostalgia, there must be something comforting in the thought that though we may forget there is a reason for why we are who we are. Call it the first law of existence: reality cannot be created or destroyed, only transmuted from one form to another.
Our shared hobby dear reader, the playing and enjoyment of video games, is not an example but the example of the first law. When we sit down in front of the screen and load up a game, we leave our reality for another. We transmogrify our money, our time, our being, and everything in the physical realm into the digital. For many its entertainment, but in the time I’ve been interacting with the Steam community I have come to realize its also escapism. Video games are just the latest and greatest escape but there have been many others before it: books, movies, songs, paintings, sculpture, poems, dirty limericks.?. there’s probably more I’m overlooking…
But the common theme that all “great” versions of those things have is that they touch something, inside of you (no not like that...well maybe sometimes…). It is as though you’re giving off some frequency throughout life and you’re just searching for something, anything, that’s on that same frequency. It’s an instinctual need to be connected and know you are not just on your own, wandering the pale. And when you do finally come across that same frequency, it acts as a lighthouse or a beacon. A guide that casts out across the void to guide you towards something. Something that you are missing. Something that you need. What that something is can be different for everyone. Abstractly though, the goal of that thing is to lead you towards yourself. Who you are. Why you’re here. What you mean and what it means to be you. It is both purpose incarnate and the conceptual realization that purpose is a fantasy.
Fatalism can be deadly in this quest. Not because nothing matters, or that everything matters. But because both are true and untrue. This abstraction can be so decohering for some that they just lean on lying to themselves as a defense mechanism. They use tools like blaming others, ostracism, denial and delusion. The tools actuate actions like hate, disgust, and pushing others away. That last one can be especially devastating. Some will take all that vitriol and isolate themselves on some remote island, physical or metaphorical, and stew in it for 43 years. Other forms are more insidious. Running on maniacal autopilot as you destroy your own life with your eyes closed. Until one day you realize six years have passed and you find yourself begging those that left you to give you just one. More. Chance. Only to discover you’re pleading with echoes of memories long since past…

“Hey that’s great and all Pyro, but hOw WAs thE GaME?!” Keep your pants, on I’m getting there.

Disco Elysium is on my frequency. My life is more complete having played it than it was before I played it. It makes me appreciative that there are people in the world whom I will never meet but they still have created something that touched a part of me that made me feel less alone in the pale. It is not just a fun, well made, and entertaining game but it is quite possibly one of the greatest games ever made. The fact that there are people out in the world who have not played it makes me sad. Everyone that plays video games, hell everyone with a computer should get to experience this game.

I have been doing this review thing for a few years now. If you’re a regular reader of them and have come to trust my judgement or taste, please do yourself a favor and buy this game. If you’re not and just enjoyed reading this, please also buy this game. And if you hated it and are wondering what the f*$# I am talking about, you should also buy this game because playing it will make you understand this review. It’ll also make your frequency more like my own and maybe we’ll both end up feeling a little more connected.

BottomLine at the Top:
A cozy quicky for a lazy afternoon.

Intro:
There needs to be a whole series of games with a random word followed by "quest". Throw your suggestions in the comments below!

Pros:
-Starts right up, no setup nonsense
-Made with Unity
-Catchy intro music
-Classic retro pixel style
-Funny
-Good puzzle flow. No crazy moon logic, things move along nicely.
-I like hearing the rain outside.

Meh...:
-No save slots, autosave only. Not a big issue due to the game being short but still I like having the option

Cons:
-Pricey for a 45 min game.

Final Thoughts:
I'd like to see more P&C titles from this developer in the future.

BottomLine at the Top:
's alright.

Intro:
This ones been on my wishlist for awhile and I finally picked it up. On sale. Which I'm glad about.

Pros:
-No setup headaches. Starts right up. No game crashing bugs.
-Weird story and theme.
-Lots of save slots
-Quality of life features (object highlight function, floor fast travel)
-Does have a neo-retro Maniac Mansion feel to it
-Puzzles are mostly straightforward, mostly good game flow. (more on this later)

Meh...:
-No voice acting. This is in keeping with the maniac mansion-esque aesthetic and not always a requirement for a decent P&C game. But I do think this is a case where it could have improved the overall experience.
-Its weird you couldn’t use the elevator
-Puzzles MOSTLY straightforward, MOSTLY good game flow. There were def periods of that "ok wtf do I do here now" along with a lot of back and forth between rooms.

Cons:
-The writing quality was very hit or miss. The overall story hit the maniac mansion vibe....ok-ish. But the dialogue quality was inconsistent.
-On a similar note, the tone of the game was all over the place. This is most apparent with the ending.
-Which reminds me, the ending. Full stop. It gets its own bullet point in the cons list.
-Characters felt bland at times. Stiff dialogue did not help this.

Final Thoughts:
I played straight thru without taking many of my usual notes for review. That in and of itself probably says something about the entertainment quality of the game. It did have a strangely engrossing feel to it, probably the combination of weird story and mostly straightforward puzzles. Overall I'd recommend it to my fellow P&C afficionados, but I think you'll be happiest if you pick it up on sale.

BottomLine at the Top:
An excellent and engrossing P&C game with a lackluster ending.

Intro:
Cloak and Dagger Games and Wadjet Eye Games have made some of my fav modern P&C games. This title certainly has all their respective marks of quality and attention to detail.

Pros:
-Good use of quality-of-life features (double click fast travel exit, object highlight function, autosaves, color blind text option)
-Retro pixel style with up-to-date features makes for a nostalgic yet modern graphic experience (note to self: start writing wine reviews)
-Excellent cutscene animations with rotoscoped elements
-Professional Voice acting
-Atmospheric soundtrack and excellent use of ambient sound effects.
-Engrossing Pseudo-Lovecraftian story and gameplay
-Good game flow. Very few "what the hell am I supposed to do" moments.

Meh...:
-I liked the original title for this game, Incantamentum, better.
-I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I F****** HATE AGS SETUP!!! A BOX TO SELECT HOW I WANT TO PLAY MIDI MUSIC?!? WTF IS THIS, 1992?!?!?!?...... But I digress, this is an issue with AGS not this game.

Cons:
-The ending, Period. For a game that had such an engrossing story, I found the ending to be a shock and not in a good way.
-Related to the ending, there were several loose ends / unexplained events that never get a resolution. I find adding things like to this to an engrossing story only to not resolve them to be a faux pas.
-Overall game play time for me was around 6 hours including getting all achievements. This is about half of what I would have liked it to be. I think there was room in the setting to pack in an additional few hours of gameplay.

Final Thoughts:
I want to reiterate that I enjoyed this game and I think any P&C afficionado will feel the same. When I look at the list of pros and cons, it makes me think that this game might have suffered from a case of "Deadline-itis".

Let’s look at the facts from this point of view:

-Game has a title change seemingly late into development. This is not rare but is a strange sign.
-Several unresolved events in game that go nowhere and are never explained.
-Signs that there was potentially going to be more gameplay/features but did not get included (things like all the extra buildings you can knock on the door but no ones there for example).
-Gameplay should have been extended by at least 2-4 hours.
-And again, the ending.

People think that because these are retro pixel style games that they are cheap. They are not. They also think they should take less time than a more graphicly intensive game. They do not. I'll also point out that the development timeline for this game overlapped significantly with that little pandemic we went thru...

That being said I have no idea if I'm right or not. I also don't care. This was still a fun game and I recommend it to all my fellow P&C fans.

BottomLine at the Top:
A strangely interesting detective game with weird graphics and a questionable price point.

Intro:
I'd call this a Point & Click- ish type game. There’s no inventory or dialogue choices or any of the typical P&C stuff. It’s more like an FMV game without any FMV... If none of that makes sense good because the game doesn't really make sense either. But it’s still fun to play!

Pros:
-Starts right up, no setup headaches or game breaking bugs.
-Above all else it can be said that this is a unique game for sure.
-Atmospheric soundtrack
-In game hint system
-A strange graphic style that for some reason reminds me of those RPG games from Prodigy Online (I’m not old I swear!)
-The overall puzzles are challenging but not impossible. Usually strikes a good balance.
-If you’re an achievement focused player this game is a good one for you as the achievements are just given for each chapter. Doesn’t appear to be any penalty for utilizing the in-game hint system.

Meh...:
-The gameplay is weird. I think its easiest to perceive this game like watching a play or something that’s been frozen at specific scenes. You have this god level mode where you can search people and locked locations ‘n stuff but you’re not an actual character in the game. Your kind of just "observing" what happened. There’s no sense of accomplishment from figuring out what happened. It’s more like you fill everything in and the game is like yep that’s what happened, and you move on. I find it to be a strange method of game play. It’s not bad, nor is it good. I'd say it is what it is but I hate that phrase, so I’ll just say take it or leave it instead.
-Story is kinda convoluted and weird. It’s partially to be expected, it is a mystery game after all. But I found it was hard to figure out what was going on until the epilogue.

Cons:
-Some of the final scenes are difficult to figure out. It’s even more difficult if you have a s*** memory or haven’t played for a while.
-But this biggest con to me is price. The currently asked $18 is a tough sell for a game with only 6ish hours of game play and no replay value. It’s a unique game don’t get me wrong and that is certainly worth something, but to me it’s not worth what their asking at the moment. If this was like some kind of episodic thing where new cases would be added in the future then maybe but this is a standalone title as far as I can tell.

Final Thoughts:
It’s def worth checking out but I'd wait for a sale. The game mostly stands out for its uniqueness of game play and overall style. I'd be curious to see future entries utilizing this same game engine.
