Zeebrax the Astral Lifejacket
UPDATE: I'm now an author of weirdo fantasy fiction! Check out my page: http://abramtaylor.com . Buy The Dead Well on Amazon [www.amazon.com]!

I'm an affable, tea-gulping goofball who got hooked on games in the NES era. My gaming interests are pretty broad, but I have an especial liking for neoretro action and point-and-click adventure. I don't feel much for simulation, strategy or E-Sports. I follow the indie scene pretty closely since I tend to purchase a lot of weird low-budget games.

Though I am not as experienced in RPGs as some, I enjoy a variety of roleplaying types, including the action-RPG stylings of games like The Witcher II and Skyrim , menu-based affairs in the Final Fantasy mold, and isometric turn-based games such as Fallout . I wish there were more games like Ys in which light RPG mechanics are combined with manic arcade action. I do not, however, generally approve of the melding of reams of complex stats with gameplay reliant on reflex and memory, a feature most -- and at this time perhaps only -- evident in the Souls series. In this arrangement, the roleplaying elements seem little more than esoteric cruft that needlessly hampers the player and drags out the game. Dark Souls almost gets a free pass because of its rich atmosphere, great enemy design and relative originality, but it too would have been a much better game minus a few silly stats . . . the sequel though, is such a tedious, garbled-up mess that I don't know where to begin. The TLDR of it is this: the Souls games (and those like them) are nothing more than hardcore actioners that play at being deep RPGs and suffer badly for it.

My most despised trope in all of Imaginationland is the "it was all a dream/dying hallucination" ending. If a plot-heavy game (or a novel or movie) resorts to this nonsense, it becomes irrevocably tainted for me, and I cast that shabby product down into Half-Ass Hell. No exceptions. I would like to rant on and on about some of the worst offenders, but that would make me some kinda spoilin' jerk since you might think those endings are better than ice cream.

As I mentioned, I really like neoretro games: games with old-school sensibilities and nifty pixel art that yet lack the sloppier aspects of authentic oldies. I find it hilarious how years back, haters spat at neoretro, said it was a flimsy hipster fad that was already over the hill. Ha! The joke's on those jerks, and on the jerks who continue to spit! How ecstatic I am to see that this type of indie continues to enjoy enormous success! The truth is, people like neoretro because it offers a special style of play you just can't get in mainstream modern games (not that I have a problem with those at all).

Ahh that sucks, they don't know what they are missing. I bet you will get a publisher, people will eventually get sick of the same old ♥♥♥♥ and look for some fresh stuff like you.

Well I've just being working at Rtec of PA and Streaming on Twitch as a side gig. Mostly streaming indie games with a little bit of mmos. It's got me to play my steam library that's for sure!
