On the surface, this game seems like just an inane diversion in the world of videogames, absurd for absurdism's sake, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. In reality, Egg Squeeze is a bold statement on the lack of self-reflection and empathy in modern society, a statement made by stripping down the complex web of the human psyche into two simple components: Hand and Egg.

The Hand represents ourselves, how we express our thoughts and feelings to others and how we reach out to receive others' emotions in kind. The Egg represents the rest of society, the people you walk by on the street, greet in stores and restaurants, the people who you hug when you step through your front door.

The goal of the game is to generate "synergy" with the Egg by squeezing it with your Hand for as long as possible without breaking it, referring to your ability to do so as a spiritual one. This facet of the game is not metaphorical, it is literal. The game is asking you to establish empathy with the Eggs, to observe each Egg and take careful consideration of how it's feeling so that your bond with it grows deeper and your treatment of each Egg becomes more personal and intimate, tailored to each Egg's needs. But in order to do that effectively, you must first be in tune with your own emotions. As you play the game you'll find that this happens intuitively: In order to approximate the Egg's breaking point you instinctively look inside yourself, for that little spark inside of your soul that tells you "This is what the Egg needs right now." You're not just squeezing an Egg for points, you're learning to establish meaningful relationships.

Now this may seem overblown to some of you, "It's just a game about eggs!", but consider this: How often do you regard other people in this world? How deeply do you consider the lives of those around you, with all of their dreams and aspirations? The love that they've felt and lost and the pain that lingers inside of their soul? Do you truly take notice of the humanity of the people sitting around you on the bus? Or are they just fixtures of daily life, arranged in neat little rows like eggs in a carton?

You could continue through life disregarding the sentience of the people you meet, cruelly and recklessly swatting aside their emotions and crushing their soul with your proverbial Hand in pursuit of your own goals until you've scarred so many people that the very humanity in yourself has faded away, your own emotions dulled into a numbing buzz of TV static, or you could play Egg Squeeze.
