This game is worth buying in my opinion, however there are things you shoud be wary off :

The Good Points

- This game feels 40k and explores a completly new army when it comes to the wargame and a faction that we don't hear enough : the Adeptus Mechanicus.
The characters behave perfectly how you'd expect a being half-flesh half-machine would and the fact that the ennemies are Necrons of all Xenos really feels nice. The game fits nicely with the 40k lore and even give hints of the wargame (Necrons collecting miniatures of themselves).

- The music also feels right, it's not that memorable but it does it's job well, it's immersive and sounds exactly like it should, the organ really makes you feel that you are playing an Imperium race that is hyper-religious.

- Playing around the Cogitator ressources is really important and forces you to be very mobile on the map, which alot of similar games like Xcom do not encourage. It's a breath of fresh air.

- The difficulty of the game is very malleable, you can change every bit with the % you desire and even choose what kind of weapon you are not using like No AoE, Melee only ... The game gives you alot of tools to create the experience you desire and doesn't penalize you if you savescum, but it will change the maps if you do that during the Exploration phase, which keeps stuff fresh.

- The classes are very different and the game encourages you to do your own mix. Some like the Lexicanum are a must-have and most of them have pretty powerful abilities. Each class also has Support items that everybody can use but if the item is the right one for you class, you get bonuses like lower cooldown or lower cost.

- The cantics are a good mechanic : 1 time items that usually gives you a really nice boost. You cannot just spend it like that, you gotta think about when to use.

- The explorations part feels like a text RPG with rewards if you choose the correct answer. I personnaly like it because ut gives a personnality to the game but sometimes choosing the wrong answer which may appear to be the most logical to you can have unnerving effects such as exciting the Necrons or giving them initiative. Something that may appear logic to you doesn't to a hyper religious half-robot Skitarii.

- The Awakening meter is also pretty well managed : you either spend more time exploring and getting treasures or rush your exploration. Taking your time will make ennemies tougher and will fill the Awakening Bar faster (bar that, if it reaches 100% you lose) so it really gives you an incencitive to manage your explorations.

The Not-So-Good Points

- The weapons, while they definitly feels 40k are, while the game does give you a decent choice of weapons, it's mostly like you have 10 weapons and each has 3 power stage with different costs but they do the same more or less. A good bunch of weapons become useless as the game progresses so it limits your choices.
Between the 2 types of weapon, Physical and Laser, the game gives you little options when it come to guns that do physical damages, something you feel the lack when the ennemies get better Laser resistance, especially when melee is very dangerous and limited to 1 attack per character.

- The gameplay is a bit too simplistic, while you do have to manage line of sight, you have no cover mechanic, no overwatch mechanic (for you). It gets boring after a while, especially when you find the tried and true weapon arsenal for your team.

- Something that I need to point out is that the initative is determinated randomly unless you had an event during the exploration that influences it. Which means that you cannot create a specific strategy knowing which character will act first etc. While it doesn't matter much during the early game and on the easier difficulties, it becomes quite a pain because sometimes, your points giver is acting after your ranged weapon specialist and if you delay his action he is going to get shot at since the map doesn't allow you any cover. And if you take too much time more ennemies will appear and the ones already here will be tougher (will reanimate faster etc).

- This also means that, when you face random ennemy spawns during your turn, some will act before you. While that's fine on lower difficulties, it becaumes a RNJesus horrible time in harder difficulties when you think you are in a good spot, sudden reinforcments appear, act before you and kill one of your characters before you do anything. That's unfair and is something that can eb really frustrating for players since they have no control around that. For a game that removed randomness like hitchance compared to Xcom, making initative random is horrible design, especially when you have no control over it nor any way to influence it willingly.

- Talking about maps, this game has very average maps. Now I wouldn't point it out too much but, while some maps are nicely made and forces you play differently, a good 30% just make you wanna punch your table, especially the maps with barriers that block your mobility and slows down the game, when the game punishes you for slowing down or not moving enough ! While they do give you some chests that you can shoot to slow down the game, those chests are really valuable because they are full of ressources (that you loose some if your Tech-Priests finishes a missions with injuries), and even if you ignore the ressource part, that's still something you need to shoot, which means less shooting on the ennemy and less Cogitator points.

Conclusion

7/10 : Decent game, compared to the level of the other 40k games (that feels like cashgrabs) this game feels like 40k and succeeds at making the player feel like he is aprt of the Adeptus Mechanicus.
It tries to do different and good things such has no random misses on the ennemy and no dodges for them and gives you an opportunity to manage your time efficiently but fails miserably by iniative and reinforcments random and slowing the game by bad map design and these bad points can lead to frustration from lack of luck and control, especially in higher difficulties.

My advice, enjoy it for what it is and don't try high difficulties if you are easily frustrated by things out of your control and bad RNJ.

I gotta say, I coughted up blood during the 6 first hours of the game, then I began to understand how to play, use the god damn kick and actually do well in combat.

It has alot to offer but you will have to be ready to git gud and learn the actual mechanics of the game.

Also, your character is very dumb and doesn't understand sarcasm, NEVER ASK THE BANDITS FOR A PLACE TO SLEEP IRONICALLY.

It's going to be hard at the beginning, but once you manage to finish a dungeon, complete quests and beat ennemies with the sheer number of traps, your brain is gonna release a ♥♥♥♥♥on of serotonin.

If you're used to having your buttcheeks clapped before doing it to the ennemy, this game is for you.
