A couple of days ago I bought "Stream to 3D" and tried it out.
And I was pleasantly surprised by it. It really works and was able to revive my 2D movie library with it.
I played several days with it and tried out all the possible settings to figure out the most optimal configuration for me.
The Convert, Stream and Play option all work fine.

Especially interesting is the Play option.
On my rather powerful PC setup (CPU:13900K/GPU:RTX4090) I am able to do realtime 3D upconvert of my 1080p 24fps 2D movies to 120fps getting real smooth 3D playback in my VR headset, a Varjo Aero and using the VHT steam app in desktop mirror for the 3D display and for further image sharpening etc. (running VHT over Open Composite for best performance). Previously I needed to use SVP4 to get smooth playback but that is not necessary anymore. And especially the HTB/HOU Upscale capability results in a real quality boost.
Best results I am getting is with the folowing settings:
Threshold:0% (no artefacts)
Stabilize Frames:off
Frame Rate:120fps
3D Output: HTB/HOU Upscaled
IPD Frame Stretch:10%
But of course the optimal settings are very dependant on the available PC resources and also on personal preference (in my case adding a mild 3D effect without it being distracting or disturbing).

So for me, when using the "Stream to 3D" Play option, there is no need anymore to do time consuming 3D conversions or to fallback to the more tedious and less flexible streaming.
But missing in "Play" for the moment is the option to select the audio stream and the lack of subtitle support (the default audio stream in not always the one I want, and subtitles are for me also rather important when watching foreign not English spoken movies). But luckily I was able to use a workaround and fix this by myself by exporting the audiostreams and subtitles of my movies first and by loading them in afterwards in the video player after the 3D converted movie was started with the Play option. I am using PotPlayer as video player as it has so many options (e.g. reading in external audio streams and subtitles what I really needed here) and it is also very configurable (every function can be mapped to mouse or keyboard hotkeys).

So I am very pleased with the results of "Stream to 3D" and with my purchase of it.
