I've played hundreds of hours of this when it was its own launcher and then more on Epic, and have played off and on since the game was first playable ever.

This update is easily, out of every game I've ever played, the worst one I've ever seen. But it was the first update that came out after a new company bought Phoenix, who was it... Its hard to find out, they were really secretive about them even being bought for some reason? Huh. Weird. Anyway it seems to be Forte Labs who is a game- wait no. They are a blockchain/nft group. Oh. Well they have still had their hands in games that had nothing to do with crypto stuff, like.... oh all those games closed down very soon after. Hmm. Surely even though this update is bad the next one will definitely come out and be better right?

NEW CONTENT:
A new monster. Thats all. And it was the first one in.... god I have no idea how long. Some amount of years, I think 2 and a half?

WEAPON UPDATES:
Ok let me get the good out first. Every weapon has a passive, a special attack, and a super move. There is a upgrade system that has 5 perks for each and then 2 more sets of 5 perks for general attack and defense buffs. I like this! Its neat! And the new* (I'll get to that in a moment) special attacks and supers are genuinely really neat at times. The Molten Edict hammer having a super that switches the weapon to use a Gauntlet moveset for a duration is pretty neat honestly.
BUT: I haven't seen many actual *new* special attacks. Before every weapon set had a collection of special attacks that you could pick from, out of like 3 or so. Now, you get one of them on the weapon and its locked in. Like the effects of the Silver Sword but realized that Cyclone is actually a really really awful skill? Well, just swap it for Overdr- oh right, you cant anymore. Well, at least you can slot the mod Keen E- oh all the mods are gone also. Kinda. Some of them are, again, locked into a weapon as a passive, unchangeable effect.
So in a vacuum, I like the idea of less* (OH YEAH LOL LETS COME BACK TO THIS ALSO) weapons, but having the ones there be extremely unique. However when the way they make them unique is to instead remove the options players had and lock them into specific things, that just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks.
This is already bad enough. But the whole system is... kinda salvageable when you have a bunch of weapons to craft and such, surely with the amount there is plenty of options inside them to at least remake what you had before, or maybe find a weapon with one of the entirely new mechanics and end up liking it more? NOPE. THERE ARE 3 WEAPONS PER TYPE. IF YOU ARE LUCKY. PISTOLS AND GAUNTLETS GET 2. AND IF YOU WANT THE OTHER PISTOLS PAY MONEY. ALSO YOU CANT CRAFT WEAPONS. IN A HUNTING GAME. THEY REMOVED CRAFTING FROM THE HUNTING GAME. WHAT????
And the way you get them is either grind weekly challenges (and we have done the math, it will take around 2 years to get enough challenges done to get the rest of the weapons, except for the ones you cant get because they are locked in the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ battle pass ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lol) or pay money for them (that money being ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 25 US♥♥♥♥ingD EACH).

Ok. Ok lets just move on to armor and cores.
So armor is still obtained like normal (sorta, when you start now all of them are locked and you have to replay the entire questline again for them to be craftable again for some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reason anyway) and still have perks on them. Before, every point of every perk had a point. Now, you have to match a certain threshold of points in a specific perk for it to do anything at all, and having more points does nothing. And yes, some armor sets give you way more than you need in like 2 of the perks and for the others not nearly enough. Well, for the latter, thats where cores come in. They have +1 to +3 variants, and you can fuse the lower level ones into the higher ones an- oh wait no they removed all but the +1 cores. Ok, well, thats weird but at least there is no longer types of slots for cores to fit in, they can go into all... 6 now instead of 10... anyway, 6 slots of a armor. And they add extra points of a perk. And if you want to try a different build you can just swap them in an- oh they are destroyed when they are removed from the armor now. Ok. Ok thats fine. Thats a good change I guess surely *someone* thought that right?

Also I dont know where to put this but they also just got rid of lanterns. Their old effects sometimes show up on a weapon or two I guess.

Also they removed set cosmetics from the hunt pass and replaced it with loot boxes. You cant get enough of them in a pass to get a full set so even after you 100% the pass you still have to go and buy loot boxes. Also they removed the currency from the pass also which used to be in there, as a sort of discount for the next one. I cant even be snarky about this. That just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks.

TLDR: no longer weapon crafting in a genre about hunting and crafting. to get weapons pay money or play for years. Forte Labs bought the studio that made this who then put out the worst update I've ever seen in my life. said company has closed everything they touch. so when i say play for years, you wont have the chance.

bye dauntless. you truly were very fun even if simple. ill miss you.
