In the explorer go to users/"username"/appdata/locallow/e7/americanrailroads/
(Make sure to enable hidden folders in windows)
Delete the file "config.dat" This will delete your saved config and launch the game with a standard configuration.

Hello there,
i agree with you that it takes some time to learn the button layout. It may not be very intuitive in the first place and it takes some time to master but the functions are working.
However in update 1.5 there will be first person controls. So when you put the cursor on an interactable object, e.g. a brake lever, regulator, coupler, etc.a small text window is shown with an explanation how to interact with it. This will prevent a lot of confusion.

Anyway i appreciate your personal feedback and would like to hear your opinion on 1.5 when it's out ;)

yes sure it is! The current step is to create new models and texture them. This process takes quite a bit of time but there is progress even if you cannot see it directly yet ;)

Awesome! Thanks that you are taking the time to give some feedback.

That sounds like a good idea! Do you have some references that you have already done? Preferrably some multiplayer experience would be great.

There is a configfile that saves all options the use has chosen. I used a unity standard method for the save files which encrypts them. So it's currently not possible sorry.
I want to include a key binding options menu in 1.5. Some people have also asked for this. It's actually kinda embarassing this is not included yet :D

Yes i think the beta branch is a good option. But i don't think i will use it in this stage of development yet since i need the direct feedback from the players. However i will look into this when 1.5 is well established.

Anyways thanks again for your support! I'm always glad about constructive feedback like this!

Thanks for reporting the bug! It will be fixed with update 1.5.
I'm glad you like it!
Update 1.5 will feature first person controls like in the video on the front page.
All instruments (brakes, levers, whistle, etc. ) must then be used manually to fully steer amd operate the vehicles!

Hello Licopolis,

first of all thanks for your support and thanks for reporting this bug.

When you are starting the game the first thing that happens is that a config file (resolution, quality etc.) is loaded. This happens before everything else.
Since you said your game is sometimes crashing even before you are in the main menu my guess is that the problem is coming from the current configuration.

In the main menu under graphics set all the options (resolution, quality, etc.) to the lowest possible value and head back into the main menu. The configuration is saved now. You don't need to use a saveslot. Then restart the game. The game restarts with the new configuration.
For testing purposes you now need to start a new game and try the things you have mentioned which make your game crash.

Also please post the entire crash log and make sure you have installed the latest hardware/graphics drivers.

However in the next few months the focus is still on the gameplay and content. After that i might take a look!

at the moment i can not specify the exact date of the update yet. There are still a lot of things to implement so expect some delay. But in general progress is steady.

Things that will be added:
- larger map with new locations and transportable products
- new engines and cars (narrow gauge), Ulysses will be parked for a while ;)
- first person view
- better tutorials regarding the game mechanics
- "market" house to unlock and aquire new vehicles
- fuel, maintenance and efficiency stats for vehicles in operation
- vehicles will fall apart when not properly maintained
- repair shop
- scrap yard to salvage/sell wrecks

Some things can still change if ppl have cool ideas. That's what i am working on atm.

Well i don’t think it‘s a good idea to shell out some sort of unfinished beta update just to „push“ the sales. this just creates angry customers lol
Basically i follow these steps:
development -> release -> feedback-> changes.

I called the video teaser 1.5 but steam is not showing the name. probably have to add the title manually to the video then.

Cool! I haven‘t seen one of these before.
That would be possible. A cheap engine for small tasks. I have already planned another one for this stage but this might be a step in between or an alternative/option.
the base price could be set low but eg also the efficiency would be pretty low too.

Hi,

currently the only way to rerail the cars is by reloading the savegame.
In the future i will add a extra heavy duty steam crane which can lift cars, engines and other logging equipment.

I agree multiplayer would be very cool and is definitely on the list. Currently i am focussing on adding more content for the player and to give a long term motivation. Once that is done it can be expanded with new features like multiplayer.

thank you very much for your kind words and I am glad you are enjoying the game! I am really eager to develop a solid and realistic simulation and comments like these are very motivational :D

Yes on lower settings it doesn't need a lot of ressources. It's manly the physics collision calculations done by your cpu. With higher settings the post processing effects are mainly keeping your graphics card busy.

The game is completely built by physical objects. All axles, rails, etc. are colliding with each other which gives the cars and all other objects a pretty realistic movement.

the player will have to start a new game.

yes the crane is buggy. the good news is that there will be a reworked one in 1.5 which will be fully transportable and use a wire instead of a chain. not only is this more realistic (all historic log loaders had wires) but it also improves performance. it only needs a few physics constraints instead of +60.
