i would also like to let everyone here know, that the passenger pigeon is a domestic extinct species of pigeon. it was endemic (only found in) north america, and they are presumed to have gone extinct in 1914. the reason for their extinction was due to exploitation of pigeon meat for commercial purposes and loss of habitat. in other words we ate them to extinction. the last recorded living passenger pigeon was called martha, who passed on september 1st, 1914, in the Cincinnati Zoo.

hopefully this interests you to read up on birds, especially pigeons, more. birds are truly much more complex and interesting than we give them credit for, and sometimes it is too late to save a species when we notice it's diminishing.
