Amazing game, CO have really nailed it.

Having played Simcity2013 and become extremely dissapointed with its hollow world and flawed gameplay, Skylines has gone beyond what I'd hoped Simcity would be.

Firstly, I'm a sucker for detail - and this game is beautifully detailed, to the point where I can't understand how they've pulled it off compared to Simcity. For example:

Individual cars/busses/lorries have physics on them. They bank as they turn, comically so for sharp corners. They lurch forward as they break, also their wheels rotate according to their speed. Cars also indicate, and give way to each other at junctions to avoid collisions. They give way to pedestrians crossing the road! They pull up to park, or do 3 point turns to get back on the road in the other direction. (none of this was in SC2013 iirc)

People are well animated and despite being so tiny, look 3D. They have proper animations unlike SC2013's stop frame paper people. Detail - they go and sit on benches in parks, I zoomed in to a basket ball court and saw one guy doing tricks trying to get round another with the ball. Most importantly they have set homes and jobs, so you don't get a rediculous mob of people (SC) running down the streets and claiming the nearest houses.

Roads are so much easier to place than SC2013, with no horrible graphical glitches - everything connects well and you have control over where and how you want your roads to curve or elevate.

Also, there is actually a challenge to this game beyond traffic flow, unlike Simcity. On first playing I totally flunked my first two attempts at a city. I ran out of money before completing an essential power line and had to start again. Great! I should have planned better how to use my money instead of making a tonne of roads first. I learnt from that and respected the fact that you need to start slow and actually manage what is needed and when.

Collosal order also do a great job of easing you into the game, with only afew things available at the start, you unlock more as its needed when your city grows, and learn about it at that point.

Problems I've noticed so far - Traffic can like sitting in one lane instead of using all available lanes.

I don't usually pre-order games but I did in this case and I'm glad I did. Happy to support devs that put this much care and attention to detail into a game.

BUY IT!

Highly reccomended - extremely entertaining campaign with a much better story than I'd expected.

Gunplay is great and nothing beats sprint sliding at a nazi with duel weild assault rifles spitting out so much lead you don't know what your shooting anymore!

8.7/10
