In topic Question to the Dev
Yes, I used Lectrote. The recipe is on the github page (https://github.com/erkyrath/lectrote); scroll down to "packaging a bound game". It requires some fussing around, I'm afraid.

I've updated the Steam configuration for Linux to include that argument.

I've added the --no-sandbox option to the Linux launch config. Please let me know if it worked!

The game doesn't load any external URLs, so it should be no less safe running unsandboxed than any other game binary.

Or so I believe. I'm not a Linux native, I'm afraid...

Thanks for alerting me to this.

Short answer: try running the binary with the --no-sandbox argument:

./Hadean\ Lands --no-sandbox

If that works, I'll update the Steam config to add that argument.

In topic Release 2.2.1: Dark theme, Linux fixes
Is this the same symptom mentioned in the other thread (8/24)?

I see that error described in this thread: https://github.com/electron/electron/issues/17972 , but I don't understand the details of the issue.

The final comment is: https://github.com/electron/electron/issues/17972#issuecomment-516957971

I don't think Steam can be configured to chown the binary to root. (I'll check the config page again, but pretty sure.) It *can* be configured to add the --no-sandbox option, so unless somebody has a smarter idea, that's probably going to be what I do.

In topic Transfer a savegame between platforms
I'm afraid the games are different. If you type VERSION, you'll see that the iOS version is release 4, whereas the Steam one is release 5. The save files are not compatible between those versions.

(The differences are minor -- bug fixes only -- but the Inform 7 IF system doesn't support save file compatibility even for minor game changes.)

I wish I could update the iOS game to release 5, but the save file situation makes that difficult. If I just update the iOS app, then the autosave file would *also* break and every iOS user would have to start the game from scratch! This is obviously terrible. So I'm stuck in this awkward corner where you just can't do what you're trying to do.

I apologize for this.

Hm, interesting. Thanks for the report.

I intend to update the app to a newer release of Electron. That may help, depending on exactly where the incompatibility comes in. (Commentary: https://github.com/electron/electron/issues/20348 .) However, I can't tackle that task right now. It's been on my todo list since, er, December...

I'm sorry you've run into this. Hopefully it won't be too long before I can pick it up.

This is a minor update. I've updated the Unity framework, and the Mac version is now properly signed and notarized. No changes to the story or UI.

In topic Polar oil bug?
It looks like you've found a hole in the automated goal-following logic. The oil is in that room, but it's concealed. The "find" command moves you to the right location, but the "take" command only works on visible objects, so it can't trigger the goal-following system.

You can still retrieve the stuff manually, the same way you did the first time. It's only the shortcut system that's tripped up.

Sorry about this. For what it's worth, I don't think anybody's reported that bug before.

Various things that I've been meaning to clean up in the past year.

- In the journal window, you can now sort items by name or by date (the order you discovered them in the game).
- Added two new color themes: Sepia and Slate.
- Changed the "Reset" menu item to "Reset Completely" (to match the in-game command for completely starting over).
- Changed the "Close Window" menu item to "Close Game" for the main game window. (Except on Mac, sorry. The Mac's menu bar works poorly with this app framework.)
- Fixed a slight size miscalculation in the status window.
- Updated the Electron app framework to 1.4.16.

If nothing goes horribly wrong, I'll move this over to the public channel in a week or so.

Okay! That's useful to know. Updating the Lectrote engine in the HL app was a low priority, but I'll kick it up the queue.

(Of course, no guarantees -- the problem might be a weird interaction between the Steam app and the HL app. I don't have any real idea what's going on, I'm just trying things.)

Thanks for the details.

> Could I potentially use one of those to run the game?

The interpreter is written in Javascript, but it uses Node.js so it won't run in a regular web browser.

There's a file in there called "HadeanLands.gblorb". This is a portable IF game file; it will run in most major IF interpreters. (You'll just be missing the game-specific UI features -- the interactive map and journal windows.)

You can try Gargoyle, which is a bit old but should work: https://github.com/garglk/garglk/releases

There's also WinGlulxe: http://ifarchive.org/indexes/if-archiveXprogrammingXglulxXinterpretersXglulxe.html

The third option is Lectrote: https://github.com/erkyrath/lectrote/releases . The HL app is a customized version of Lectrote, so you might see the same bug. But could you test it anyway? If Lectrote *does* run on your machine, then I can probably upgrade the HL app to get the fix in.

Sorry you're having trouble.

I haven't seen this sort of problem reported. What OS?

What do you mean by "command box"? Does it contain the opening text of the game? (The Mandeville quote.)
