This game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ insane. It's simultaneously
1. a tragic story about political maneuvering/political murdering/wealth disparity/having kids for the tax credit/the gradual tendency of society to get worse and worse until you give up and accept your fate
and 2. an anime quasi-dating-sim where your virtual (girl)friend demands you bake her a real life cake (which I did not do because it was 8 pm and I didn't have the ingredients but I swear to god before I die I'm gonna bake that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cake because she deserves it.)

The game doesn't have as much punchiness (for lack of a better term) as its predecessor, owing to the choice to let the player reveal the logs in whatever order they want, which robs the plot of any kind of climax (and robs the player of the feeling they're actually solving a mystery), but I don't really care because the logs were so much more interesting to read; they actually all directly tied into one another in an interweaving way, as opposed to the first game where some of the side entries were completely unimportant and only existed for flavor. Oh, and the art and music is excellent as always (r.i.p raide.)

I can only regret that I wasn't there a decade ago (to the day) when this game came out, but with the continued relevance of its commentary on how the fragility of democracy leads to regressive societies, you'd be hard-pressed to believe the game is actually that old. So much has changed since then and yet so much has stayed the same.

The genius of this game is in how it baits the player into thinking there's such a thing as a "good ending" for someone trapped in the toxic hellhole of streamer culture by their own self-destructive desire for validation. Most video games of this type are a power fantasy simulator for lonely people to pretend they have a Super Cute Streamer Girlfriend, but Needy Streamer Overload benefits from how it presents itself as one of those games only to serve as a critique of how the internet enables mental illness.

(The English translation of this game is excellent, by the way. It's the exact opposite of generic, dry, highly literal VN translation; it's filled with colloquialisms and references to Western internet memes that give the game a kind of charm that's equal parts funny and horrifying.)

Gameplay is like crack, soundtrack is awesome, writing is funny, cool art style, this game has everything. If you like rhythm games at all, please play this.

Thought-provoking social commentary that remains relevant some 11 years after release. If you like reading terminal entries in games like Fallout you'll love Analogue because the gameplay is just that. Good music too!

This is one of those games that starts out simple and by the end you're temped to make a spreadsheet to optimize your next playthrough. It assaults you with so many mechanics and systems simultaneously that it's impossible to keep track of them all, and yet that's simultaneously where the fun lies.
