The pinnacle of the Resident Evil series. But still play the original 1996 one. Thats an experience in itself.

DBD balance in a nutshell:
Survivors = Work less/more fun
Killer = Work more/less fun

Unbalanced game play. (Balanced around beginner rank group playsurvivors)

Community is unpleasant. (Think Left 4 Dead 2 x3)

Peer-2-Peer involving 5 players. (Most players are happy using their Moms cheap Wi-Fi from their basements)

Matchmaking is a complete shambles. (Survivors get into lobbies in seconds, Killers have to wait up to 30 minutes just to open a lobby)

Developers don't ever QA. (as proven by the recent release of Ghostface in the PTB)

Developers don't even play their own game. (Evident from the newest killers abilities)

Developers will release a DLC Perk/Killer then inevitably nerf it to the ground once purchases slow down. (Freddy, Legion, STBFL, DS, MoM. To be clear, I agree some balance is needed, but it should be balanced BEFORE release. Not AFTER. That and sometimes things are fine as they are. They don't need adjusting. I refer you back to the balance point at the top.)

No penalty system for D/C during games. (Well, except for the ones that keep playing because thats fair. /s )

Double standard when it comes to bans (When Killers have and use an exploit giving them a huge advantage they get banned while the devs take their time removing it. When survivors use an exploit they do not get banned and in most cases the exploit becomes part of the game)

It's a bit grindy. (You'll be spending a long time trying to get the all the parts you want for your various builds)

Slight focus on cosmetics (Some can be purchased with in-game earned currency, others require currency which is bought with real money)

2020 update: This is still the case. Reworking killers and perks so its less frustrating for survivors.

The developers are ♥♥♥♥ing ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Basic summary: Resident Evil set in Texas Chainsaw Massacre made by the guys who do Evil Dead.

It's not really by the guys behind Evil Dead but you get what I'm putting across.
It's a ♥♥♥♥ing great game.
