When i heard about a new SR game i was at least hoping from a continuation from SR4 where we go ♥♥♥♥ around with the historical figures. Like, MC even got Jane Austen out to party with...the ending for Gat Outa Hell was perfectly set up for a multi-dimensional take on SR, and the reboot just chucks it away when the people demanded continuity and more Johnny Gat being Johnny Gat. I guess in this scenario, we ARE the Johnny Gat? Does that mean that if i have a female boss I should start thinking she's Jenny Gat? (actually, this is the only way i could justify SR reboot)

Is it fun?
I'm having some moderate levels of fun for now so yeah, guess it is. I'll just play this when i need to shut off my brain for a bit and relax.

Is it bug free?
It's a Saints Row game, ofc it has bugs! currently for me:
-the face scrunched up last night (which requires a game restart to fix),
-currently all vehicles sounds are minimized so they sound like...nothing (this is consistent to me). can't even hear the car horn.
-sonically speaking, the missions are very, VERY quiet. it's like they're supposed to have a background music, but said background music is missing...hmm...now where have i heard a similar issue before...
-sometimes saving/loading a preset (not sure which one) may give you the wrong hair color (turned by boss's hair from black to blonde)
-sometimes, you fail a mission because a mission-critical character dies off-screen. in my case, it's because i accidentally rammed him, and the game still think he's being killed even after i reset to the last checkpoint, so i had to reset the whole damn mission
-decorating your crib with a certain portapotty will cause the game to think there's an enemy nearby, therefore deactivating ALL of the church's facilities as you're "still in combat", which sucks because it's a very funny (and gloating) decoration

the good bit?
-driving is very, VERY good. you also have a way more ridiculous amount of air control
-a ridiculous amount of customizability, for free, at your phone, which means you don't have to go looking for a plastic surgery store and pay money to change your looks like in past SR games. also, british voice so now you can sound mildly condescending/miffed!
-you still got the BODUKEN (tho you no longer get an action notif & free XP for doing one, so now only og SR fans will know what it's called). seriously why does more games not have a boduken?
-you can decorate your crib now.

the bad bit? (that's not a bug)
-wingsuit control always feels like you're lagging at 300ms so you're always not quite sure where you're facing...
-some weapon upgrade missions are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ worthy of a BF1 weapon unlock mission (eg: the one that requires you to get kills with your last mag, or the one where you have to stagger 100+ idols with regular attacks). honestly, i'd rather just buy the special upgrades than do missions to get it...
-no more dildo bat. RIP Saints Row's best weapon. apparently too "juvenile" (we, the SR community, call ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, and want our Penetrator back. it is an heirloom to the SR series and how dare you remove said heirloom and prevent us from whacking a ♥♥♥♥ with a ♥♥♥♥.)
-apparently the reboot was supposed to have a more gang-themed story but Deep Silver (the publisher) wanted a "friendship-themed" story so if you think the story's kinda meh, blame them, not Volition.
-Volition just got axed, so you probably won't see any bugfixes anytime soon from the current owner Gearbox since the dust hasn't settled yet. not even sure if they WILL fix some bugs.
-they nerfed boob size. no more big bahonkadonkas at max chest size cuz they just look regular-sized for me now. look man, even women like massive badonkadonks too so it's not particularly social justice to not let people have humongous homonggalongkadonks. oooor it could be just because it causes some mild texture breaking the last time they let the boss have enormous bazingalogongakongaroos in SR4 (highly unlikely to be the reason due to how small of an issue that texture issue is.)
-you could pick 8 emotes...ooor you could just get stuck with a couple emotes anyway because you don't know how to pick another emote amongst the 8 (couldn't find the keybind for an emote wheel or something). oh, the game also forces you to do the emote even if you've unequipped it (i swear i didn't equip the air guitar)
-you're in a desert. there's sand everywhere. why can't we ever have a winter-themed open-world GTA-like game...

Should you buy it?
Yes, but only on sale. Yes, the story's somewhat lamer (mostly the first couple missions), and doesn't fill you with as much adrenaline/hype as the previous SR games. Yes, the UX feels like it was made in the 2000s (eg: no shortcut key for map. you get one for mission instead for whatever reason. how many people you know check the mission list more than the map?). so decide for yourself if it's worth getting the bundle or not because [MILD SARCASM] i believe you can make a well-informed decision [MILD SARCASM].

Now that Gearbox has the series (especially since Volition got nuked), I sincerely hope they can roll out some improvements (and Borderlands goodies) into the game sharp-ish...eh, they prolly wouldn't, right?

Early Access Review
Yes it's an early access game, and some things don't quite make sense (eg: default colors are red for friendly and blue for enemy when usually blue is friendly and red is enemy), and it doesn't have quick melee, but i'm already having so much fun so far my butt hurts so yes, it is a more fun battlefield game than battlefield 2042. ironic innit?

just remember that if you're playing on asia (JP or blank flag servers), most ppl can't speak english so it's on the more quiet side. If you want something more lively and you live in SEA, consider Australian servers, where ppl are much more lively and english.

This game deserves a Wikipedia page and a Steam Award for GOTY. It's not everyday that 3 guys can make a better game than a very established multi-billion dollar multinational megacorporation, even though said megacorpo has never released a decent game in the last 5-7 years.

well it's fun, which is what you want to hear from a Far Cry game. certainly a more engaging and fun story than FC5 so far. also, we got a tank O_O

EDIT: yes there's a tank, but why do they have to make its controls so bad...plane controls make even less sense too. my biggest gripe tho is never having enough moneda because the only consistent way to get it consists of going to a masochistic dungeon

oh, did i ever mention about the fact that the game likes to crash if you tab out of the game? still fun regardless, but still.

it's...uh...very confusing, to say the least. the tutorial doesn't really teach you anything about how to play the game (compare with CK3's very comprehensive tutorial). needless to say i wasn't having my fun trying to figure out what to do...

certainly a very unique take on the standard Musou formula. I'm more surprised that KT isn't particularly going in this direction with their newer games (notably SW5) because i find this rather enjoyable...and annoyed that it didn't come any sooner, or that no one informed me that this has been ported to Steam (i found out by screwing around on the KT publisher page)

now if only they would bring in SW4 and SW4 Empires into steam...still not sure what's stopping them from doing so, considering the lack of enthusiasm from the community regarding their more recent lack of quality towards their core Musou games (DW, SW, WO) making everyone more than happy to buy their older games which HAS actual quality fun in them.

If you're not in a love-hate relationship with SMITE, you're doing something wrong.

the game's being shuttered by the end of the year, after signs of improvements, due to its ridiculous monetization practices not encouraging people to stay around (in addition to Overwatch 2 overhyping itself to the point any similar game except Paladins dies from sheer competition), and the lack of ability for players to get free currency for non-premium customization, and that the devs took a particularly long time to listen and implement player suggestions. you can come and try the game (still fun), but just remember that it'll all be gone by Nov, so any and all potential emotional damage is your own responsibility (as it is mine as a player YES I'M CRYING IN RAGE INSIDE NAMCO WHY U DO DIS)

a massive shame of lost potential stemming from devs wanting an overwatch-like game, but not quite getting the bit that makes ppl want to stick around in general on games in their quest for an OW-style mecha shooter game, so they took the coward's way out and pulled the plug instead of taking the hit and polish the game even more

old review:
it's fun. do note that:
- this game has gachas
- for whatever ungodly reason devs have decided that making prem currency time-limited is a good idea (the part of the community that are aware of this questionable decision collectively agrees that this idea is very stupid, mildly speaking)
-mm takes ages because low player pop. it also means you get unbalanced teams way too often
