We are but a speck in an endless void. All our beliefs and accomplishments are of no consequence. The achievements of our fathers are taken for granted by us, and are condemned and dismissed by our children. One day it will all be dust. All we are, will be dust. All we create will be dust. And one day even the dust will pass away, reduced to mere drifting atoms.

There are no gods to reward the righteous or punish the wicked. There is no world but this one. There is nothing but what we make, and what we make does not endure. We are not souls. We are not luminous beings. We are just animals fighting for warmth around the embers of a dying fire.
