Okay so I've found a reference to this particular bug in the issues tracker for one of my third-party dependencies and it's possible that upgrading to the latest version on the next release will actually fix it.

... called "Professor Ooo and the Buttons of Doom". It's nearly ready, some more voice work, music and testing is required but I'm working flat out to get it finished and in the game.

It's a bit of an experimental one this. More on this to come...

Ha really? It normally shows just various Monkey Island games, but Far Cry 5, sure, I can see the similarity!!
I will be upgrading to the latest versions of my various third party dependencies for the next release. I hope this fixes some of these issues.

I know some people have found that restarting steam before trying to launch again has fixed this problem too. I'm no closer to finding the source of it, sadly!

I'm up for this tea escrow idea but you'd have to get rid of my giant stockpile of industrial quantities of tea for it to work!!

I'm going as fast as I can though. Next chunk is SO CLOSE to begin ready. Music, some more dialog, bunch of testing... SOOOOOOON!

I'm good thanks, I'll keep going until the money runs out, then get a real job, then hopefully do a bit more. I priced it for what is already in it so that if it all goes wrong people don't feel like were ripped off, but new content is coming soon. :)
I must admit in future episodes I will try to find a way to make various bits skippable on second playthroughs (this may not be possible but it's something I'm thinking about). Never occured to me that people would actually try to get all the achievements, or that they'd end up having to play it through so many times to get them. I sincerely apologise :)
Hi there, I hope you haven't restarted this!

If Walter locks you out of the shop, the poster appears somewhere else in the world ( in the ginnel, actually ) - there's no way to get stuck forever, honest :)

I had permission to borrow the protest joke, I don't think I'd get away with stealing characters or story bits but it could definitely happen by accident haha

I do keep checking but sadly still no joy I'm afraid!

Thanks :)

Father Ted is a big inspiration. The idea of having one fairly sane (if a bit corrupt) normal character surrounded by a whole world of weirdness is pretty much everything Yorkshire Gubbins is built around!

Noted. Will put the cat in the bin.

You're right btw, Stairfall probably needs its own Twitter account but I'd forget to update it. :P

Ey up!

Can't give a specific date at this point, I've just finished coding all the technical stuff I need for the next block of content and I'm back on with writing so I hope to have good news for you soon!

You know... you're right. I'm going to rethink how I do the episodes menu. It's very basic right now and obviously there's a lot more I could do. There wasn't time before the original release to do anything fancier, but as the amount of content goes up it's going to become more of an issue so having something better when the next mini-episode drops sounds like a good idea.

A knitted vest with "I hate babies"... oh god that's so tempting. SO TEMPTING. I really love these ideas and do want to do merch, I'm just focusing on the content of the game itself at the moment.

As for the Spork Jogger poster... I'd probably have to commission an artist to do that and sadly the budget isn't really there for it but if I ever have the funds that'll be straight on the list :)

I don't know when it'll be, but I'll set aside some time after the release of the next mini-episode to get some on demand stuff set up!

In topic Game Not Showing When Launched from in Steam
Unfortunately I believe this bug is caused by an interaction between certain third party tech I use and the Steam Overlay and it's one of those things that because I can't recreate it here there's no way to diagnose the problem or find a fix.

One thing that you both could try is adding '--in-process-gpu=false' to the launch options. If I'm right this will prevent the Steam Overlay showing but you should still be connected to the Steam API and get your achievements etc.

Obviously I can't actually test this from here. If you could let me know if it makes a difference that would maybe be a start!

I think most people don't choose to play a bonus episode before the main game. I played Humble Pie first, so I was thrown in at the deep end, which was OK, but then it was too spoilery for Holy Molluscamony, which might be less OK.

Honestly this was one of the more difficult decisions when making this game. Holy Molluscamony was the 'pilot' episode and, to my eyes, the quality wasn't really anything like as good as Humble Pie. I didn't want people's first impressions of Yorkshire Gubbins to be the weaker episode, or to think that's what a normal episode was supposed to be. Maybe they'd not actually even try Humble Pie and then be left with a completely different impression of what Gubbins is like!

It's a tricky one. I hope playing them in the order suggested by the game didn't spoil your enjoyment too much!

That.... is tremendously frustrating! Do you have some sort of Interesting(tm) setup with monitors and resolutions? Just trying to figure out what it could be. Sounds like it's running but not creating a window which doesn't make sense at all. Would love to be able to recreate this!

Hmmmmmmmmm. Well first of all I'm glad you found a way to launch it. I suspect the issue is to do with the Steam Overlay. What sort of GPU does your computer have?

Right! So! Yes. Engine is all custom, OpenGL based forward renderer that does a diffuse and light pass and has a few fancy shaders to make it look a bit better which we call Steggyvision.

The episodes are scripted using Hassle which is our own scripting language. It's pretty simple but all the tooling has been designed to make writing, recording and importing game dialog/audio as quick and painless as humanly possible. Cos there's a lot of it.

Personally I recommend not doing any of this. Ever. It's a terrible idea. Thank you for your advanced technical question!
