I interviewed Adam who immigrated to Cary from Jamaica back in 2008. He moved to America just with his mother while his father stayed in Jamaica. What he remembers of Jamaica is that it was always sunny, and the times he spent time on the beach with his family, he also said that the people were more friendly and nice there than here. Adam's family immigrated here because his mom lost her job, and after she couldln't find a new one she wanted to have more opportuinity and a better future for her child. First to immigrate here Adam had to get a VISA from the US embassy in Kingston, Jamaica. The process of getting a VISA took very long and the lines outside the embassy were also very long and would stretch outside the building. The challenging part of immigrating here was that the workers at the embassy were laid back so it took a couple of years to get a VISA and during that time they weren't sure if they would get it or not. His first memory of America was when he first arrived in JFK. He has never seen a building this big in his life. He also has not seen this many skyscrapers in such a small area. Another difference was the amount of traffic in NYC at the time of their arrival. They had to wait in traffic for about an hour even though their hotel wasn't very far away from the airport. Adam says he misses a lot of Jamaican food like ackee, saltfish, beef patties and most importantly jerk chicken, he has tried some Jamaican food here in America but he says that it does not taste as good as it does in Jamaica. The main reason he moved here was because of the opportunities Cary provided, it also filled with nature which he likes and it is cheaper to live here than in places likes California.
The cultural differences between America and Jamaica is that they have national heroes day and they listen to a lot more music in Jamaica than here, you could literally hear music everywhere you go.
