Feels like a 3D, first person, Medieval Rimworld (without the raiding parties attacking your base). It also has an immersive vibe similar to exploring Skyrim's wilderness.

This is enjoyable and a mostly peaceful base-building game with some lightweight quests to encourage you deeper into the gameplay mechanics.

A nice feature is the ability to customize the game while playing - to shorten winters, or remove weight limits,
increase skill gain speed.

Also - one of the objectives is to marry and raise an heir to adulthood, which slows down the rush to game completion. It takes a while just to woo a potential wife. I can't think of that many other games that have this mechanic (raising an heir).

I feel that if this game had modding support - it could explode in popularity, similar to how much you can change gameplay and appearance in Rimworld and Skyrim. Even something as simple as playing the game as a Woman as an option (which I don't believe exists in base game).

For the first several hours of playing, you will die and die and die and have very little clue what is going on.

Eventually, you learn how to read the map, figure out where you need to be, and what you should be shooting at.

There are many guides available for new players. Take advantage of them. I watched an artillery video on youtube, and killed 129 enemies on my last match with only my second time using artillery.

This game is very CPU/GPU intensive, recommend a higher-end PC for play.

Also - this game is very time intensive. Matches can last over an hour at a time, and you only get rewarded if you stay until the end. It's hard to jump in for twenty minutes and achieve any XP for your classes.

HLL is overall a fun game for patient players who enjoy large-scale, objective-based FPS. It rewards multiple types of play - in fact, your enemy kills is rarely the in-game activity that achieves the highest score. Capturing and defending will often give you more points. Don't be afraid to die.

I enjoy Insurgency Sandstorm. In the original Insurgency - I played a lot of PVP modes, but in Sandstorm I find I mainly play the PVE modes such as Checkpoint and Survival.

What features do I like? The weaponry customisation is fun to experiment with. The Survival mode (where you receive random weapon and mods (scope/etc) has encouraged me to try out different combinations.

The checkpoint mode against bots can become predictable after a while. I do suggest they ramp up the spawn rate. Experienced players can camp the spawn routes and it becomes a snoozefest. Night mode checkpoint is still enjoyable for the added challenge.

Survival mode with random weaponry and aggressive enemy spawns is highly challenging depending on how experienced your team is. Not knowing what direction enemies will come from makes it feel a little more realistic. It's important to listen for enemy cues (shouts and gunfire).

For me with less time to game these days, it's enjoyable to jump in a few matches of Insurgency and switch my brain off for a while.

My background - I've played COD since the original, Battlefield since 1942. So I have plenty of FPS under my belt.

A wonderful way to explore underwater seascapes and frozen landscapes, filled with mysteries to discover and challenges to overcome.

Tip: Don't park your Prawn Suit where a Leviathan can eat it.

Desperately fight wave after wave of horrible monsters as different classes and with a huge variety weapons, with other players watching your back. The maps and graphics style is darkly twisted and humorous. If you like seeing monsters explode into gore in slow motion, you'll love this.

Early Access Review
Mostly relaxing, sometimes terrifying, this is a gorgeous futuristic survival game. While it's still in early access, you'll find plenty to explore in the depths.

Reminds me of tactical-oriented FPS genres such as (previous versions) Americas Army and Call of Duty 4 / Sabotage mode. Very happy to see the effort spent in balancing gameplay.
