I touched down on Malevelon Creek at 0200 hours with my fellow Helldivers. The air was humid, and stank of oil. Before we knew it, the Automatons were all around us. We attempted to push them back, and destroy their Fabricators, but their numbers were too great. It seemed that as soon as we had destroyed a wave of Automatons, another two took their place.

The first to fall was a new recruit, crushed underfoot by a hulking abomination of machinery. His replacement fared no better, blown to bits by her own Stratagem. Then the worst of it came. The damned bots put up a Jammer, and suddenly, we were on our own. Do we fight? Flee? No, a Helldiver never surrenders. Death is better than cowardice. We went at them with everything we had. As the bullets flew and metal fell, we knew it was only a matter of time until we too, would take our place on the wall of Martyrs. All through the night we fought; tooth and nail, for Liberty and Democracy. I can't recall how many Hellivers we lost.

We accomplished our objectives and hightailed it to the extraction point. Shells racing past us as we did so. Running dangerously low on ammo, we defended our position the best we could - but it wasn't enough. By the time the shuttle touched down, I was the only one left; staring down an approaching horde of the worst of what the Automatons had to offer. I called in one final 500kg strike and bid those bastards farewell.

For now, we have lost Malevelon Creek to the Automatons. but I know we'll come back stronger, and reclaim it!

-Limited Overwatch 1 content for several years. I stop playing.
-Jeff Caplan leaves Blizzard
-The Blizzard allegations occur
-Overwatch 2 releases into Beta, announces that PvP will launch first and PvE will come later, so people don't wait too long.
-Overwatch 2 launches with most heroes behind a timegate/paywall and an abysmal shop system
-Puts new heroes in the battlepass... wtf?
-New gameplay and maps are pretty good though
-Events are underwhelming, focusing more on MTX than fun gameplay
-Baffling balance changes
-Announces that PvE is cancelled
-Clarifies that only some of PvE is cancelled
-Announces that the remains of PvE will be sold for $15 (and it is time-limited)
-(A fragment of) PvE releases and it's barely any better than the archives missions in Overwatch 1
-Releases onto steam with Overwhelmingly Negative reviews (lol)

I was planning on playing more but I can't actually launch the game from steam, so good job.

It's clear that the developers are talented and passionate about this game but my god it is very hard to see that through the thick wall of terrible business practices. Blizzard is taking some hard L's lately that's for sure.

10 years later and this is still one of the best stories ever told within a video game.
