This game is most easy to compare with Fallout Tactics and new XCOMs. And it loses to both.

First let's talk combat because it's 90% of the game.

There are several mechanics missing in the combat:
- Sneaking
- Hiding behind walls or obstacles
- Verticality

And because of that all combat encounters feel exactly the same even though you get better weapons. You have a feeling that you instead of walking through natural cities or landscapes you rather go from a combat area to combat area. Each looking like a square field with scattered barrels, boxes and barricades. And they are all the same.

In Fallout Tactics you mostly fight in urban settings, you can climb on the roofs and set up sniper nests, you need to fight in small rooms, throw grenades into caves etc. In XCOM even though the maps are procedurally generated they still look fresh most of the time. Even in Wasteland 2 the combat areas had more variety.

Now, about the plot and quests. The only good thing I can say about it is that it teaches you that often there are no good options and you choose between two evils. That's pretty rare to say. Usually the RPG games have clear good vs evil explanation and you play as a "good" character but in real life choosing between two evils is a thing and I'm glad someone points that out in the game. +1.

The quests mostly are independent and have no influence on the general plot aside from minor details like available merchants. Voice acting is not really believable, sorry. Too much acting. And the dialogs themselves are fairly boring and straightforward. The main theme of the game are cults, religion and affinity to clans but besides that there is nothing interesting. Compared to that even Fallout 2 explored more society models: gangs in New Reno, military government in San Francisco, elites in Vault 7, small gangs in Den etc. Each city felt different and had its own philosophy. In Wasteland 3 you don't have cities basically so that part is lost. Again even in Wasteland 2 it was better.

Lastly, some words about inventory, skills and perks. They are mostly balanced except for the Initiative which is totally useless. Unfortunately due to some bugs, there are couple of OP perks which, once you acquire them, turn a game into a joke even on hardest difficulty. Those could've been patched long time ago but never were. Also armor level is totally useless in this game. On harder difficulties even with armor level close to 100 enemies will kill you in 1-2 shots as if you had 0 armor.

Other than that the inventory management and crafting feels good and logical. Maybe would be interesting to see some randomness in weapon stats. So that when you get 4 Guardians they don't have the same damage and range but slightly different. But still it's ok.

If you want to play a tactical RPG, rather look for something else. Wasteland 3 will be a waste of your time most likely
