A huge missed opportunity. A 4X deck-builder is a great idea, but in Hexarchy, you often find yourself without any cards to build units when you need them, and given that every game has a turn limit, you often find yourself timed-out before you can finish the match. You're also swamped with techs to research things that you may never be able to actually use before the far-too-short match timer runs out.

I rebooted ESO after several years to see what had changed. Answer: very little. One new class (that I had to pay for by buying Necrom), and some new content.

I've tried, but it's impossible to find any joy in ESO again. Classes still feel poorly-designed and uninteresting, PvP is still not fun, and scaling means the Alit I attacked all those years ago at level 1 still takes the same number of hits to die when I'm level 50 and stacked with Champion Points.

Early Access-recension
This game needs a ton of work, but I had a lot of fun with it in the time I played and can see a lot of potential here.

Giving it a thumbs-up because even though there's a lot that's unpolished about the game, it was well worth my $20, many will enjoy it right off the bat, and it needs our support to continue to grow into what it can be. It's a marginal thumbs-up, but still a thumbs-up.

Having said that, the developers do need to massively improve the AI, add a lot more player abilites, improve the frame rate, and do a massive amount of work on balancing. I spent the game dying til I got to level 5, at which point I got Fireball and most enemies were easily killed by spamming them with fireballs while moving backwards.

It's a lot of fun, fairly polished for an Early Access game, and a great value at $9.99. Really looking forward to seeing how this evolves.

Just amazing. Incredibly polished for an Early Access game and very true to the original. The writing and acting are definitely more than a little bit on the campy side but that's really the worst I can say about it. One of the best strategy games to come out in a long time.

Great game overall. Yes, there are major UI and AI issues, the amount of junk in the game is overwhelming, crafting is mostly unnecessary and annoying, and there are some bugs. But combat is a lot more fun than previous Fallout games, and overall, it feels like a big step forward for the series.

Early Access-recension
The Magic Circle is an amazing, unique, incredible, brilliantly creative game. It is genuinely the Citizen Kane of videogames: a confounding, insightful, first-of-its-kind work of art that also serves as a cutting (and well-deserved) critique of some of the industry's most well-known (and infamous) auteurs. I was shocked when I played it and nearly all of the voice-overs I heard were things I've heard almost word-for-word from some of the industry figures I've worked with over the years.

I hate the silly "are games art?" debate as much as anyone, but The Magic Circle is the first game that we can unquestionably call "art," because there's no other good word for it -- a game that makes a unique, insightful, and incredibly important statement.

A game that makes you think.

A game about the "magic circle" of games within reality, but also about the "magic circle" of the reality bubbles of the teams that create them.

This game is not fan service -- it's a difficult, challenging masterpiece. Anyone looking for Call of Duty should probably avoid it. It's a game that fights you, and sometimes shows you things that are not pretty, or imperfect -- but when it does so, it does so quite intentionally, and for a very good reason.
