I'm writing this review for Tiara as a playable character alone.
Tiara is a very useful character overall. She has similar offenses to Noire, with Tiara's default weapon and the ultimate Noire DLC weapon (Right now, my Tiara is level 33 and Noire is level 35). Tiara has comparatively low defenses if you have the DLC armors like I do, but she also has a great healing move, healing 75% to one target or 75% in an AOE range to your teammates. Her offensive skills are also useful, with a four tile linear hitting move and an AOE attack.

However, this mostly applies just to the early game. More characters are unlocked as the story progresses, and Tiara gets quickly outclasses by the new arrivals.

She's also a god tier waifu. I guess she's a decent character, but that's just a side bonus. Would you want to pay a dollar for a god tier sword and armor or a god tier waifu?

If you've never watched South Park but still like dark humor not for the easily offended, then you'll enjoy the game.

The only problem is that there is no new game plus. I found the story line to be pretty short, the game doesn't take too long even if you're just screwing around the first time like I was. Without new game plus, it's a bit of a drag to play through the game again. It's a very good time though.

Do your Steam friends not talk to you? Can't find a way to start a conversation with you going first?

No worries, just open up Nekopara and you'll soon get messages from your friends list calling you a pervert and asking what's wrong with you!

A masterpiece amongst visual novels.

I've never been a fan of the horror genre, but Higurashi is an exception. Higurashi is different because it doesn't take "generic" horror cliches such as extreme amounts of gore or jump scares. If you've watched the anime or played the VN already, yes, I agree, it does take a while to get to the scary parts. But the build-up and the contrast makes it worth it. If you went into this game blind without even reading the description, you might even start to think it's just another romance visual novel. The lightheartedness of the beginning contrasting with the slowly ascending terror makes reading and continuing addicting.

I played the game with the voice patch installed. However, Higurashi is by origin a sound novel, where just the sounds alone are capable of giving you a great experience. But do yourself a favor and install that voice patch anyway. The voices help bring the characters to life, and it helps set the mood with the cute to evil switches.

If you've never experienced Higurashi When They Cry before, you're in for a ride. One playthrough won't be able to satisfy all the countless questions going through your head after the ending. Read it again and live in the world of Hinamizawa again, and try to figure out the mystery yourself and where things went wrong. Before you know it, you'll finish the game at 3 am, and not sleep until 11 am in fear of Rena waiting at your door.
