It's a good melee focused co-op horde slaying game that's rough around the edges. But what it lacks for in polish, the environment and characters make up for in their charm. That snide Kerillian remark or Saltzpyre's unbridled fanaticism echoing through the sounds of combat make it all the more lively and takes away from that monotonous feeling of just hacking away at monsters.

Unfortunately its got a steep learning curve and lacks some modern contextual or ground pinging system (akin to DRG), so playing with randoms can get hectic if you want to type in text chat while trying to block the dozens of swords and other sharp objects coming at your face. This makes playing with friends on a voice chat a vastly superior experience, especially when the meta game is as established as it is by now. Bots are decent at lower difficulties, but do occasionally tend to get stuck on corners/ ladders at times which can be frustrating when you are being pummelled in the meantime.

The variety in melee and ranged options are great and open up quite early into your playtime, leaving you to experiment with a multitude of build options without the need to sink 100s of hours in as a pre-requisite. However, the subsequent shared jewellery slots (charms, trinkets and necklaces) lack any impactful choices as once your desired common modifiers are obtained on a couple pieces, you can equip them onto all characters. This makes the optimal stat choices to aim for very rigid and rudimentary, leaving no possibility that you might earn an upgrade in the form of enhanced perks or class-specific stats in the future (beside incremental stat rolls). The inventory interface is also quite rough, with no loadouts to speak of, you need to swap into each and every character to dismantle class-specific equipment or change their jewellery one at a time. There are also a number of weapon options and 4 sub-classes locked behind paid DLC, which can be a turn off for some people.

TLDR: Great melee combat, Good character voice quips, Rough (but workable) equipment system, Lacking ping system, Poor new-player guidance.
