I'm fairly new to being a gamer and I'm still figuring out what my tastes are... I loved Unpacking but hated A Little to the Left; The Witcher and BOTW/TOTK are super fun but I couldn't get into Skyrim and Cyberpunk 2077 was too scary for me (lol) because of the combat with guns. So I never know what I will or won't like until I'm actually playing it!!

I have now realized I'm more of a puzzle person and coming into this game, I was in a post-Blue Prince and post-Inscryption slump and I didn't think I could find a game that would scratch that itch. That is, until I played this game. Now THIS game has become the Holy Grail... the game that has me yearning for similar games. As someone who loves going down Wikipedia wormholes late into the night, this game was perfect for me. I used to think I preferred playing on handheld consoles but The Roottrees are Dead has converted me to playing on a computer!!! This game is everything I've ever wanted in a game and I wish I could play it all over again...

If you like The Witcher and puzzle games, then you should try Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales!

Obra Dinn, Outer Wilds, Case of the Golden Idol, Portal/Portal 2 followed by The Witness. Theres some hours of good puzzlin' in many forms. Some of my all time favourite games.

Definitely try Return of the Obra Dinn! Similar to this game in spirit, but a lot more abstract with a very unique visual style.

I would hard recommend Hypnospace Outlaw, it gives me similar vibes.

I agree with MrUglyFace, try out Outer Wilds, it's an excellent game too along similar lines as this one. However, take a look at The Witness too. As far as puzzle games go, I've yet to find a game that beats it. It came out years ago now, but it's one of the few where I wish I could wipe my memory and have a fresh play-through of again. Best of luck in your search for new titles!

Definitely try outer wilds, it’s just an incredible game in general, but the amount of ‘aha!’ moments I had in the game was definitely a driving force for me liking it so much. It definitely scratches that sci-fi itch I have, maybe a bit too well, since I can’t unremember what I played and can never play it again for the first time. Definitely my all time favorite puzzle game

Play Return of the Obra Dinn, you won't regret it. Just make sure you savor it, because it can really only be played once.

Organized Inside and Whisper of the House are nice Unpacking type games you might like! Islands of Insight is a sort of Myst-y puzzle game where you can fly and stuff! X3 The Darkside Detective games are fun, funny, and have decent mysteries. For easy mysteries with charm, the Duck Detective games. :3 I hope you find other games you like!
