San Jose, Costa Rica

With yellowed skin and soft, unhurried pace.
Within thy flesh a secret doth reside,
A whisper, faint, of forces none can hide.
Thou art, by nature's craft, a berry true,
An herb of curious form and golden hue.
Yet more profound, thy potassium’s might,
Contains a spark, unseen by human sight.
A subtle tinge of radiance you bear,
As quiet as the breezes in the air.
One would require a mighty, daunting feat—
Ten million bites, a deadly dose complete.
But here, in single hands, thou pose no threat;
For in thy soft embrace, we’re warmly met.
O fruit of earth, with mysteries concealed,
In simple form, the wonders are revealed.
Were one to consume an unimaginable 10 million bananas at once, one might experience the effects of this radioactivity. But in the daily lives of creatures great and small, this remarkable trait remains merely a testament to nature’s complex, wondrous, and sometimes curious designs.
