UnMetal is a top-down, 2-D stealth and action game. The graphics are pixelated. But, the characters (during conversations) and map designs are nicely done.

It doesn't take itself too seriously. The story is narrated by the protagonist, and all the action takes place in the past.

Some of the jokes fell flat, and the story felt amateurish at times. But I did laugh on a few occasions. All the actors' voice work is excellent.

I liked some of the soundtracks. The sound design is serviceable.

The gameplay is good. The weapon choices are limited. That is understandable since you need to do stealth takedowns most of the time. That is a good idea. Because the more takedowns you perform, the more experience you gain. This helps with levelling up and unlocking different abilities (a light RPG element).

You also have to collect and use different types of resources, as well as combine them, to get through some of the sections.

There are some game-design choices that may feel unfair and frustrating at times. You need to select dialogues in a particular order to progress. If you make the wrong choice, the game is over. As a result, you must rely on trial and error. Some of the boss battles may require a few tries. So hold on and don't rage-quit. You will get through eventually. The Vs (versus) splash screen pops up every time during boss battles, which is annoying if you die so many times (and also restarts from the last checkpoint instead of directly putting you against the boss). They have gone overboard with cutscenes. It may break the flow of the game. That could have been kept at a minimal level. Also, I was dissatisfied with the ending.

It took me around 12 hours to complete my first playthrough on normal. I have played it again on hard to get the remaining achievement(s).

Overall, I have enjoyed it for the most part.

I would recommend getting this during a sale or through any bundle if it's available.
